Weird timing variation with Tudor Ranger

A very weird event happened with my Ranger, it originally ran at +5spd and settled down to consistently run at +2spd. Slowing down a bit is normal on ETA movements, I’ve had this watch for over 2 months with no slow variance but for some reason after Valentine’s Day my watch is running -5 to -7!

I checked for magnetism with an app I downloaded, the watch is not magnetized. I tested this app with a quartz watch i own and a very light powered magnet and it was accurately reading magnetism on those. I have never dropped or banged my watch on anything. It’s just literally dropped it’s speed 10 seconds for no reason at all.

I also keep the watch wound properly, it’s worn nearly every day and I always hand wind at least once every few weeks just to be sure. This is out of nowhere, I’m totally baffled. Here’s a screen shot of my watch over a period of 61 days, notice the bizarre drop. Any ideas of what’s the heck is going on? I’m going to let my AD send it in for service when I pick up my BB58, this just greatly disappointed me because my Ranger has been so excellent until now.

I do check my watches against time.gov annually just to get an idea on the health of the movement. However when I do it, I check it over a long duration because what I am looking for is consistency.

I’ll write down how fast/slow it is in the morning and again at night before bedtime. I do this for 7 consecutive days (the length of a rotation). I compare it to the previous years results. If there is a wide variance then I evaluate if it’s time for a service.

Your testing is quite sporadic and you don’t have enough data for reliable results.

I’m not sure how you find the testing sporadic, this is testing every day for 60 days.. the gaps you see are just “timing runs” it shows the dates a new run is started where I reset the time. Every day this watch has ran at about +2spd besides the first week I owned where it ran at +5spd.

Magnetism will make your watch run faster, how is the watch when you wear it and don’t test it? are you getting poor time keeping then?

It gets tested every day, the most it has deviated is that +5-6 seconds per day when I first got it. Otherwise, the typical schedule is I put it on before I go to work around 7am, it gets worn till about 530 pm and then it goes on the watch stand till the next morning around 7 when I put it on. It has been super consistent averaging at about +2 per day after that first week. Then out of nowhere it is just losing time
Like crazy after Friday, same schedule. Wearing it yesterday for the day and evening it is still losing excessive time.

Ah gotcha. Not familiar with the application you are using. It appeared sporadic from the dates on the image.

I would keep an eye on it a little longer then. For me personally, I would only be alerted by a wider variance. For example > -/+30 seconds per day

Yeah I see how that can be confusing. This is a pretty big change, I’m concerned now. I’ll keep wearing it though and just wait till I get my next piece from my ad and send this one off.
