New member intro plus watches
Hey guys and gals. I’m a retired scientist and I just got my first Rolex(es).
A little background, I’ve always loved watches but I never got into the better watches till I worked in the Joint Strike Fighter (F35) program office. We had 50 Breitling aircraft watches commissioned and I bought one. I learned that quartz movements weren’t as fascinating as mechanical movements so I traded that for another Breitling navitimer cosmonaute limited edition. I’ve owned several 911s and all my driving buddies talked about Rolex ( latest is 2018 GT3). The Daytona was the favorite but everyone had different Rolex’s. So a couple months ago I thought I’d go to the jeweler, walk in and buy a Daytona. Like a big newb. They smiled and said that’ll be 7 years. I noticed there’s nothing in the cases but the dress watches, which I had no interest. I’ve always loved the Sub so I asked and she said 2 years. So she tried talking me into a Tudor but I hadn’t thought everything through. So I walked out with my tail between my legs. Pretty damn disappointed. These are the same type of games I have to play with Porsche to get any kind of GT3 or RS. Well the best thing about the Porsche community is the people. One of my buddies is a watch collector. So he tried educating me and then offered me his 4 month old no date Sub. So I bought that. That’s my first Rolex and I’m super excited a love to wear it. But then this crisis hit. My friend told me he had another friend who’s in the golf industry ( I love to golf and fly fish or just fish). He is a collector and he had a guy who was offered a new Batman but given the current climate didn’t want it. So I grabbed that one too. So just in a couple months I got 2. I wear my Sub but I have my new unworn Batman to look at. I’m staying in contact with my dealer to see if one day I can get that call but I’m not going to hold my breath. I look forward to contributing in the future. I’ll post pics but they’re too big |

Congratulation. Great start to a collection. Hopefully the BLNR gets some wrist time.

Thank you! Yes the people that are passionate about life enough to get into a hobby they are passionate about and giving of knowledge, I find them also very giving of friendship. Some of these guys are some of my best friends. More so than people I’ve met in the military. Those guys move on and do other things. Some keep in touch and sometimes you form a great friendship. But people you’ve sat with at a bar and a drink and you’re talking about something your so into, will remember those conversations for a lifetime. And those guys form relationships that last a lifetime.
We did track days together and most of us remember those great times. Now I hope I can maintain that passion for these time pieces. Cars and watches are a perfect hobby together. And I’m super excited about finally get my Rolex. And I look forward to my path to a Daytona Thanks again for the warm welcome |
