Love this. I've been looking at a 16600 to accompany my 16600. I agree, it may be the best SS watch ever.

Awesome watch. The size/wearability and functionality combo is just about right for me. Has a date with no cyclops, massive depth rating, relatively easy to wear size, relatively under the radar.

I remember debating long and hard at an AD whether to get the SD or the 16610, visiting multiple times. Ended up getting the 16610, but always, always wanted the SD. Just couldn't justify both back then.

And there were multiples of all of them in the display case. Haha.

One I have never had but wanted. As I get older, I like the cyclops on my 16610 and realize I will never need the additional 3000 extra feet of depth protection as I don't dive and my sub is great for the pool :)

Really? the massive depth rating had a factor in your choice?

I doubt this is really a selling point for ANY potential buyer....

It is a model that I like a lot for being a bit special and in its time it was the most technical or more professional watch of the entire Submariner range.
It has a date but without a magnifying glass that makes it almost unique in Rolex, much more watertight means more resistant to shocks because the glass is thicker, helium valve, engraved back, more complete equipment, the case is a little thicker and gives feeling of being more watch, I have it and it seems to me one of the best submariner of the aluminum era.

Tiene fecha pero sin lupa que eso lo hace casi único en Rolex, mucho mas estanco significa mas resistente a los golpes porque el cristal es mas grueso, valvula de helio, fondo grabado, dotación mas completa, la caja es un poco mas gruesa y da sensación de ser mas reloj, yo lo tengo y me parece uno de los mejores submariner de la época aluminio.

couldn't agree more. I've got mine on a NATO, never even sized the bracelet. It by far gets the most wrist time over even a... Daytona (gasp) and... an aquanaut (double gasp!)

I have to agree. I bought a Z-series (last year) 16600 new and tend to forget it's in my safe (I probably haven't worn it in nearly 2 years). I pulled it out a few weeks ago and it hasn't left my wrist since. In my eye it has the most perfect proportions or any Rolex sport model since. The old bracelets get a bad rap around here, but they are incredibly comfortable on my wrist. If I had to pick one watch to wear the rest of my life it would be my 16600. The dive table card, bracelet tool, and anchor are also really cool!

Most 4x4 or SUV will never see dirt, mud or even snow yet it is a massive selling point.

Most sports cars will never achieve their max speed.

Most Daytona’s will never chronograph anything either.

I came across a business traveler from Europe in Japan with a GMT and both time zone indicating local time (didn’t knew how to set it or what it was for he only likes the look of it).

We can go on like this for ever
