Don't trust ebayer "gorolex"

"gorolex" otherwise known as the Philidelphia Watch and Diamond Co. are not to be trusted.

They advertise items on Ebay, and withdraw them from sale shortly prior to the end of the auction.

This is a well known ploy to deal with the item off e-bay and make more profit for themselves.

My opinion is not trust them, they have no business ethics or principals.

Here's an example, an 8 day auction that they closed down on day 7 stating that the item is no longer available for sale.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#37;3DWatching

Here's the question & answers section of the auction:

Quote:
Q: do u have a buy it now?
A: Hello, I am going to let the bidding go
Q: Hello, Would you let me know how much to "buy it now"? I could drive to Philly to pick this up and pay you. Let me know your best price. Thanks and warm regards.
A: Hello, I am just going to let the bidding go.
During the course of the auction, the seller maintained that the bidding would go to the end of the auction.

That was a lie.

Go with someone who's word you can trust but IMHO steer clear of these guys:

From what I have seen, the seller has a perfect rating. You can't go bad mouthing him like that. When you put your ad up on ebay, you are buying advertizing space and nothing more. You have a full right to cancel your auctions when ever you feel like it or for anny reason. EBAY can't do jack about it ... someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse and he closed it early ... perfectly legit thing to do .... if you had not been nickel and diming him, he would have sold it to you ... if you put your money where your mouth is, you will notice that this world will bend over for you .....

Direct from ebay- enjoy

eBay prohibits email offers to buy or sell listed items outside the eBay web site. Offers of this nature circumvent eBay's fee structure and are a potential fraud risk for both buyers and sellers.

Some examples of outside such offers include:

*

Using information obtained through eBay to offer to buy or sell a listed item outside of eBay.
*

Cancelling a listing to sell to a buyer who became aware of the item through eBay.
*

Ending a listing early to sell the item at a higher price to the winning bidder.
*

Offering to sell an item to a bidder in a Reserve Not Met listing.
*

Offering to sell duplicate or additional merchandise to underbidders.

It is acceptable for sellers to end a listing early to sell an item at the current bid price to the high bidder. Bidders are permitted to contact sellers with requests to end a listing early; however, sellers are under no obligation to do so.

Although offer to buy or sell outside the eBay online marketplace are not permitted, sellers may be able to sell items to underbidders by sending a Second Chance Offer.

Steve,

I had a very bad experience with them on the Breguet Type XXI they have listed. The guy I spoke with, Andrew, was very rude, first telling me that he would 'price match' anyone, then when I showed him other sales, he reneged, insinuating that I was not a 'serious' buyer. Needless to say, I suggested that he sits on that watch until it hatches, and instead gave my hard-earned money and business to Watch Expo out of California (GREAT GUYS).

GOROLEX aka TNS Diamonds will NEVER see my business again.

A perfect rating doesn't take into account sales made from auctions ended before the closing time.

The commission payable to e-bay is dependent on the final selling price.

It is not perfectly legit, as has been stated to sell the item off e-bay to a buyer. That is why they have a 'buy it now price', and it's also against the e-bay rules as stated.

'nickel and diming him'....I don't know what you mean, but it is total crap. I was bidding on the auction and monitoring it as a prospective buyer.

'put your money where your mouth is'.....that is absurd, you are a troll and this is just one in a series of posts you have made in that vein.

So

Phew.... Thanks, man! I was afraid of stumbling on another thread by this idiot saying something like 'I pee on my Rolex daily'.... (for those who missed it, it was actually one of his topics, I am not making this up!)

The watch could have been sold in the actual store, leading to the listing's end, which doesn't break any eBay rules (although I haven't scrutinized the TOS).

If anything Steve, if he had accepted your offer to sell it in person right away, he would have broken the TOS for sure.

First let me make it clear, I didn't make the seller any offer to buy the watch off e-bay, but I wanted to know if he was going to do so, and the response given to me (which you can see in the questions and answers section of the auction, and not only me) was that he was going to leave the sale to the bidding system.

I agree if he had said to me that he was prepared to sell it before the end of the auction that would have been a breach of the e-bay rules.

However I followed the auction daily for a week in the expectation that I could make a final bid and hopefully buy, or have an opportunity to buy the watch. As it turned out the seller terminated the auction on the last day of the auction......what does that tell you.........

I don't know about you guys but in the past there have been items on e-bay and I have followed them for days, only to have the auction canceled. The seller says someone made him an offer and he sold the watch/item. That really craps me off, and even more so where the seller warrants that he is 'going to let the bidding go'.

Other sellers (and those that are principled) do in fact advise if they are going to accept offers or not, and keep their word. I don't care what a seller chooses to do, but to say one thing and do another, that is what I dislike.

Makes sense. Seems like an unreliable seller, but I don't think he did anything horrendously wrong.

Well said!

Even if everything had been legit and as Scott hypothesised, the message sent out by the seller is, "I got a buyer, Steve, and your interest in my product isn't even worth an explanation of the early closure". Steve had been playing by the rules and watching the auction, and the other guy pulled the plug without a single word of explanation. That simply lacks respect, and while no rules were necessarily broken here, I'd be doing the same thing as Steve and saying that this guy's "customer service" totally sucks.

I see little difference between my situation and a situation where say a buyer says to the seller, "I'll buy your watch." Only to see the buyer then look around for a week and say to the seller, "I've bought a different watch, so I'm not going to buy your watch now."

In each case one party has made a representation to the other, which is untrue. In each case one party has acted on the faith of the other party's representation to their detriment.

In my case foregoing the opportunity to purchase other watches or opportunities and wasting time on the cancelled auction.

In the example, the seller has kept the watch for a week for the buyer and has foregone opportunities to sell it to other prospective buyers and lost those opportunities.

Well nads, it doesn't surprise me, going by my experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll let you know if I need more details.

I don't as a rule go around hammering sellers, but I got the advice that this auction was going to go down to 'bidders' so I had been eagerly watching it every day for a week and just as it got to the last day of bidding 'poof' the seller pulls this stunt. That really shows they have no regard for their own word or anything else except the almighty $$$.

Steve if you also do a quick google search on tns there is a website dedicated to how someone was ripped off. Similar story with me. I bought twice from them, visited the store a few times, and they have been doing this for a long time...they use all the tactics to squeeze every dime...

One more reason I detest Ebay. Schill bidding and sellers working the system are becoming the norm. I've asked someone for the buy-it-now in the past to end the auction early and they've done the same thing. I've also sold on ebay and come to terms with a buyer and lowered the price to a buy-it-now we were both comfortable with. I let everyone who asked me questions about it get a shot at it though. Buying from pawn shops and brick and mortar places in particular make my blood boil. I've asked SEVERAL within a couple hundred miles of here that had a listing on ebay if they would be willing to let me pick up in person only to get no response for days and then be told that someone already bought it from the store and they forgot to take the listing down

Main Street - come on!

You find them in caves, behind trees, and in abandoned buildings!

Believe it or not, there are still decent folks on ebay, although the scales are tipping....

I might be wrong but if he has a store, then I think it is permissible by ebay rules for him to continue to try to sell the item in his store and also on ebay. He would not be able to sell the item to any ebay member outside ebay but could sell the item early via his store. There is a category in ending an auction early with the "item is no longer available" option.

There is a category in ending an auction early with the "item is no longer available" option.

Allan, I think Steves point was the customer service/respect factor. The seller stated numerous times that he would let the auction run it's course which was untrue. For me, long story short, had Andrew try to sell my watch on consignment, and after months of waiting recieved a call from Andrew stating that someone was in the store ready to buy my watch for HALF the price. Andrew got his cut of course.....
Then I see my watch on his Ebay days later!
I was tricked, and will never do business with them again.
