More risk on today with MRNA news

Futures up +474, S&P +41 at 3627

Will be interesting to watch the action to see if the buying has any legs or if the traders will sell the news.

Markets holding steady, brief sell program at 10 but the market is back to daily highs.

Strength across the board with orderly buying, tech is mixed, I am continuing to hold here

Markets rolling over a bit heading to 2 pm. Getting overbought here and I am not sure how much there is left to push higher. Typically when facing a new over head resistance level especially a large round number it can take several tries to break through.

Failing that 3540 on the S&P would be downside support

For those wondering about HRTX, a good article.

This vaccine news is getting ridiculous. Absolute market manipulation...I’m just gonna check my tech stocks back in six months where we are standing in the exact place we are today.

Guess it will break upwards! Added just a few shares AH to experiment with this as a trade. Still disagree with the valuation, but figure the S&P hype will drive itself. We shall see.

Costco announced a 10$ per share dividend for shareholders on record by Dec 2 payable Dec 11. I’ve had this one a long time. It’s been a consistent winner for me.

So technically one can still buy and receive the dividend as long it’s prior to dec 2?

Yes, just remember when it goes ex the price will drop by the amount of the dividend

Futures off after yesterdays run

HD with a solid earnings beat, the sellers are taking profits this morning. I am staying long HD as nothing in the story has changed.

TSLA being added to the S&P, it will also likely be a sell the news event

The ex-date for the special dividend is 12/1, so your order should really be filled before that date.

Costco has been a great buy stock wise for me, and also enjoy shopping there.

Berkshire on their latest 13F, liquidated all of the costco stock and has added Big Pharma.

Thanks gents! Ryan - did go to the AD, and was surprised at the selection (DD40's, new OP36, SS DJ's); only thing missing were the subs, of course. Will post pics later this week, as usual.

Back to the market - SE "misses" but really put out strong numbers and raised guidance; if I wasn't already fully invested in it (it's my largest holding), I would be adding here. Could possibly see a green move today after the initial move south pre-market...we'll see.

Long-term outlook still looking solid; as always, 12-18 months is where my mindset is.

Quote:
Another key factor that could move stocks up in the near-term: Investors are still holding tons of cash. That means they have a lot of capital to put at risk. Total net assets in ICI retail money-market funds is at $1.5 trillion, according to Evercore. That is down from a record $1.6 trillion during the selloff in March, but still up around 28% from roughly $1.2 trillion in early 2019. “That would imply that there is plenty of money on the sidelines to come into the market as sentiment improves,” Evercore’s head of portfolio strategy, Dennis DeBusschere, wrote in a note.

And there's the red to green move that I was expecting for SE, from a low of about 168 this morning immediately after the numbers came out (it's at 180 currently).

Again, very strong guidance and great conference call - this thing is still a young monster chomping to take over Singapore / SE Asia.

NIO's been bouncing up against 46.50, 46.60 since the morning rush subsided. It's finally broken through that resistance. I think the next barrier will be $47. Will be interesting to see how this ends up going into the close. About 3 weeks ago I pretty much went all in here. Will be shorting 75% of it at close. I have enough faith long term to keep my original position, but see way too much volatility AHs to be ok with it.

Glad I didn't wait till close. Put a limit in at $48.70 and it hit going up.

Earnings beat, as expected. Now to see how things go...

Interesting. I'm wondering if CVS is getting oversold here. CVS already delivers prescriptions and has other big lines of business. It's hard to dislodge people from habits unless there is a compelling reason, like a big price difference.

Agreed CVS and WBS oversold here. There are many people who need their prescriptions same day and will not wait for the two or next day delivery. Same thing happened to grocery stores when Amazon announced they were getting into groceries. Stores like Kroger immediately sold off but were fine in the end.

Also cvs and Walgreens will be facilitating most of the COVID vaccinations so foot traffic will increase next year along with in store sales. Both stocks had a huge run up this month so I think there was some profit taking today. I’m looking into CVS 2021 leap calls with an attractive entry point now that IV is coming down for them (only mid 20s).

Tough to justify goodrx though, don’t see much upside.

TGT beat, LOW had a mixed report, PFE reports trial data and the Futures spike up from earlier lows. +111 on the DOW at the moment.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/18/east...-commerce.html

For those thinking a vaccine fixes everything and that it's time to jump into the beaten down stocks - we still have a long way to go. The first article goes into the logistical issues with the vaccine, and the second talks about how it will take longer than people realize for the travel industry to get back on its feet.

What will continue to prosper? E-commerce and the digitization of many things, which not only has COVID sped up its adoption and implementation, but will continue to see growth over the next decade.

For the Cathie Wood / ARK investors - not sure if you've been following the news, but Resolute might take over there, against the wishes of Cathie. Interesting turn of events for a fund group that has been a recent shining star (I'm not invested in any of their funds, but do follow them).

Agreed barbell approach is the way forward.

ABBV with another upgrade, Berkshire also buying ABBV in filing on Monday. I am staying long ABBV as it is one of my core holdings

Call me crazy, but I don't believe PFE or MRNA are going to be the clear victors...even after their 95% claims.

Anyone rotating into energy/value? I’ve already got enough exposure in my existing portfolio so I won’t be adding here (I just trade around my existing position). However, I am curious if anyone here is looking at HAL, SLB, or anything else?

I am long CVX and COP however, that industry is very troubled and IMHO will remain so.

Demand will be slow to return and the move toward renewables is inevitable. I hold those because they can pay their dividends and I bought low but would not hesitate to sell both positions if there were to be a sizeable move up.

Better sectors to put my money like Tech, Pharma and Industrials

Not entirely sure what you mean but I just saw a report that the world may need up to 14 billion doses of the vaccine. Clearly a lot of market to share.

There are at least five manufacturers that make flu vaccine.
