Yachtmaster Platinum bezel scratch
A quick question,
Is there a way to remove/polish a hairline scratch on the platinum bezel of a rhodium dial Yachtmaster? It’s brand new but somehow I managed to get that tiny scratch on the bezel and would like it to be perfect again. My only non 40mm watch, still not sure of I like the size. Thanks —————————————————————————————— 114060, 116610LV, 116619LB, 116520, 116710LN, 268622 |

Without seeing a picture (and therefore assuming it's definitely polishable and not deep nick) I'd suggest giving the good old Cape Cods a try.

The RSC can refinish the bezel to like new condition as part of the overhaul, with no extra charge where I live. As Driver8 said, it will depend on how deep the scratch is. Hairlines and superficial scratches, no problem. Deep scratches or gouges however will require a new bezel.

Only blasting, Rolex will take care of it when it’s time for a service.
There are some independents who can fix it as well.

DON'T use cape code in this place , you will destroy matt place . Tape around and try to use very careful brush pen (fiber glass material) , do not brush it only touch it .

Platinum sand blast finishing, nothing you can do about it, the more you scrub it, you spoilt the finishing leaving it some dark marks or spots on the bezel.

I wouldn’t do anything. But if you do decide to have it fixed, I’d only trust an RSC or Rolliworks.

I wonder,......1st it's probably an 'insert bezel', but looking at the position of the scratch, could the raised numbers and other parts of the watch/bezel be masked, and then the scratch be 'sand' blasted with ground up walnut shells (so gentle)?
The background does look like a 'blasted' finish..... The scratch must seem like a blasted nuisance! |

I also read that cape cods only works on polished metal so I will give it a pass.
Probably best to check in a watch store, on a hunt for my next piece anyway. London diamond district will have someone to do this if it can be done. It’s only visible if you look at it at the right angle in the sun but it’s still annoying, knowing it’s there. |

Any opinion on the size, too small? Or good?

It’s looks fine but, determining how a watch looks on someone via a single picture is nigh on impossible.
If you are not happy then you have a decision to make. However, I would give you and the watch a bit of bonding time first.

You’ll have no problem getting the bezel sandblasted in Hatton Garden.
I was quoted £50 about two years ago and results looked great |

That’s where I’m going, will ask around and see what the Hatton crew thinks about this. And 50 quid sounds more than fair if it looks perfect again

It looks fine, feels great but every time I wear one of my 40mm’s and then put this one it just looks tiny. It’s all in the head I guess, I have small wrists and the 40mm’s actually look quite big on me. I might just keep it then, resell value is bad anyway :)

Size looks fine on you, not too small at all.
Suggest you do not touch that small scratch as there is a high likelihood that it will be even more noticeable. Live with it and enjoy that beauty. I am fortunate to have a YM blue dial and it is my favorite. |

Yeah I wore it today and I can’t notice the scratch unless I’m looking for it so I will just let it be. Will still ask what the jewellery people here in London have to say but this blasted finish seems very delicate to deal with thats why I asked on here. The YM was the first piece I ever bought of an AD, nicer than all my subs when it comes to looks and it cost me the least. I will only use it rarely anyway, scratches too easily for a daily watch imo. Can’t beat the ceramic bezels for beater use. Even my smurf looks like new and I wear that a lot.

There is no version of reality where you can, at home, on your first try with makeshift instruments, achieve anything besides worsen it.
Leave it be. Only Rolex would be able to correct it with no issue. Other specialized shops might do something, but I wouldn’t risk it. |

Leave it. If you try to treat it, you will be sorry, especially with soft Platinum.
