126610lv & 126610ln

Hi all,

Something I was just wondering about.

The 126610ln and ln share the exact same face, hands and size. What would stop someone putting a green bezel on a black sub and selling it off as a LV?

We know previously this wasn't possible as the 16610ln had a maxi dial and the 16610lv had the smaller handset etc.

I'm just really curious as no doubt people will be doing this as the watch market gets more hyped?

I know the warranty card obviously would say LN but people could just scrap the warranty card, get a bezel insert and command another 2k+ for what was a LN sub?

Thoughts?

Good luck getting a genuine LV bezel insert for $2k. Just doesn’t make sense to achieve seeing as Rolex has their parts department on lockdown. Also I think the case should have LV after the model number in between the lugs.

Nope doesn't have LV after the lugs. I don't own a 126610ln or a 126610lv but whenever buying a watch I've always wondered hmmm swapped out parts etc?

Believe me, Rolex do not have their parts department on lockdown. A quick search on eBay will show you ample Genuine Rolex parts. Plus, what's stopping someone using a aftermarket insert?

Parts like these are definitely on lockdown. Genuine bezel inserts go for thousands and thousands of dollars. While they cost $150 from Rolex. I just had my BLNR insert replaced during service. $168. It has to be sent to RSC for service to have this sort replaced. Rolex wouldn’t send to the AD to service in house.

An insert can be authenticated. So sure someone could try to do that and maybe they do but it’s risky and difficult to pull off. People paying $20k for a watch these days aren’t morons mostly, and there is a lot of info out there about authentication and how to not get scammed etc.

Ok, then find a genuine 126610LV bezel for a reasonable price. Or at all. I will wait. Those parts are replacement only. If your buddy has a 126610LV, you could probably take the bezel off, put it on a 126610LN, and send his watch in for a service + bezel replacement claiming it caught onto something and fell off. It will be expensive and take a long time, but still probably cheaper than actually sourcing the LV in the first place. If you do it too often they will probably stop replacing the bezel. And your watch will still be LN according to all papers meaning when you service it, they will put the black bezel on. Also warranty card will be LN. Just too tedious for greys to do. When they can flip and make same money faster. As a one off for yourself, you could if you have a friend with an LV willing to sacrifice. For reselling? Not worth it.

As for aftermarket parts, you can easily tell they are aftermarket.

I don't have a 126610lv nor an LN. Was literally asking what's stopping people from doing it as previously it wouldn't have been possible on the 5 digit sub due to the maxi dial.

Also any 126610LV without a card is suspect right now seeing as they’re only a year or so old. Just overall not a lot in it for someone trying to scam someone else in this way. Doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened or won’t happen. People do dumb shit.

You can stop waiting George, admittedly it has sold but it wasn’t far away.

OK, just found that post. That is a Hulk bezel, not a Starbucks one. But I did find a Starbucks one as well. By the same seller no less. 3200 USD for a bezel. And what's the price difference between LV and LN? Like 5K? Probably not worth it to do it. With the "LV" coming out of it with wrong papers lowering the value and whatnot.

Also, I think also this is more of a one off rather than an easy to find thing. It isn't a say Hulk bezel which are easily sourceable. Similar thing for 116520 vs 116500 Daytonas. Dial swap on the 116520 is easier to do rather than on 116500, because the dials are more readily available.

So once again. As a one off? Sure, possible. As a business model? Probably not worth it.

This is exactly why it doesn’t make since to do as OP is suggesting. Spend $3k for a part that’s impossible to obtain to then swap and scam/hustle an extra $2k from someone that doesn’t care there isn’t a card on a newish watch. Profit = -$1k or more depending on actual sale if you can find said impossible part.

What's to stop someone from putting a BLRO bezel on a BLNR and doing the same, or putting a Tiffany blue dial on their OP? The OP dial change is something you can easily do for (I think) $500.

Any financial gain would probably be offset by the 'loss' of the warranty card. People want complete kits when they're paying top dollar.
