I loath the smell of cigarettes. Yuk.
Love any smell that reminds me of my childhood.

Love the smell of Cedar.
Just walking in the door of our cedar cabin. Can't discribe what that smell does to the soul. Dislike Cigarette or Cigar smoke with a passion. Even worse is the stank on a smokers clothes. We have a smoker in the office. I cannot hang my jacket up in the coat closet as I don't want that rancid/putrid stank on or near my stuff. When he comes in my office to ask a question, right after he's had a smoke, I want to jump out the window. I'd rather have him fart in my office, than have a smoke before he comes in.

And now for something totally different...
The aroma of freshly split oak logs smells like peaches, to me.
I also love the smell of a pine forest after a rain. At the top of the mountain in the Allegheny National Forest, the smell of ozone permeates the woodlands! On the quirky-side, the smell of my down pillow and the smell of new tires in the tire store appeals to me.

Best smells: 1) New car smell (most cars) 2) Ferrari, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, leather smell. Mmmmmm! 3) Jet fuel smell, preferably a G-5 4) Pipe smoke 5) New Rolex box smell. 6) Secretary's perfume, not sure what it is but it smells fantastic on her. I usually hate perfume. Drives me wild! Gotta be careful. 7) Cut grass. 8) BBQ being smoked. That's it I guess. |

I only smelled the jet fuel when we drove past JFK airport when I was a kid, I guess it was the association with seeing planes that made me like the smell. When I was a small kid, I actually used to stand behind those old fashioned (early-mid 60's) buses in NYC because I liked the exhaust smell. Guess that was a little dangerous.

Love: vanilla, peppermint.
Dislike: patchouli, and the lingering smell that occurs if you fry something. Faith, what is the perfume you are talking about? I am a big fan of vanilla based fragrances.

Caroline, Comptoir Sud Pacifique's "Vanille Extreme." They make numerous vanilla scents but this remains my signature fragrance, nothing on the planet is like it. P.S. What are you using? |

So many people hate the smell of Patchouli and I've never even heard of it. Had to google to find out what it is.

Fresh mown grass and fresh baked bread (I pass a bakery everyday when they just finished their first run!) are among my favourite smells. A good Bourbon also smells very, very nice. And of course there's Opium by Yves Saint Laurent. Heavenly
What I absolutely hate and despise is the foul odour of people who never heard of taking a shower before they start the day and the use of a proper deodorant. It turns my stomach

Comme Des Garçons has some phenomenal stuff too.
From Wikipedia: "Comme des Garçons also produces a line of unisex fragrances, most of which are unconventional in the world of perfume, in the same spirit as the label's garments.[13] They released their first fragrance 'Comme Des Garçons' in 1994.[14] 1998 saw the release of Comme des Garçons's first "'anti-perfume' Odeur 53",[15] a blending 53 non-traditional notes to create a modern and striking scent.[16] Some of these notes being: oxygen, flash of metal, washing drying in the wind, mineral carbon, sand dunes, nail polish, cellulose, pure air of the high mountains, burnt rubber and flaming rock." I have Odeur 71, which is 71 non-traditional scents - some notes included: Dust on a Light Bulb, Hot Metal, Toasted Bread, Ink, Taste of Licking a Battery, Photocopier Toner, Welded Aluminum, Pencil Shavings, Wood, Moss, Bay Leaves, Bamboo, White Pepper, Hyacinth, Lettuce Juice http://www.peredepierre.com/2008/06/...s-garcons.html |

Dear TheDude, I can state with 86.7% accuracy that I smelled your cologne yesterday afternoon when a northeasterly breeze came through my area - I recognized the "Licking the Battery" notes. |

I find this thread fascinating. They say that the strongest memories are evoked by the sense of smell and I believe that absolutely!
I love the smell of a garage....gasoline....grease....oil.....hand cleaner etc. I also love the smell of a freshly mowed lawn and scented candles....vanilla....apple cinnamon and mulberry. I hate the smell of Pine-Sol and of cigarettes.....and even worse....dirty ashtrays that have days of butt accumulation. |

I like the smell of Pine. Real pine, not the canned stuff. If you break it and rub it on your hands it has this terrific smell. Also, anyone who has been on a submarine, even for just a tour knows it has a distinct smell, like diesel mixed with a whole buch of other stuff. There is no other smell like it. I like that smell. It reminds me of my youth.
I don't like the smell of "Felony" feet. Really bad news.

I used to love the smell of avgas. Then I went through this patch where 27 takeoffs resulted in only four landings (and not by choice), and somehow I didn’t like avgas anymore.

Also the smell of frangipani flowers. You will only find these trees in warm climates. I sometimes go for a walk, pick a few off someone's tree, bring them home and watch them float in a small bowl of water releasing their wonderful aroma. The smell of freshly baked bread and freshly ground and brewed coffee are also wonderful. |
