A day in Switzerland, what would you do?

I’m stopping by Basel for work in June. I want to take a day (anywhere in Switzerland) to do some watch stuff.

If you could do anything for one day in Switzerland, what would you do?

I just spent almost three weeks in Switzerland... for shopping I'd recommend Lucerne, but for watch-related activities (non-shopping) I'd highly recommend the Patek Philippe museum in Geneva, the tour (and museum) is absolutely fantastic. My wife isn't into watches at all, and even she loved it.

Not in Basel but Geneva....2014 window shopped in all the watch stores located in one area which was great and also checked out a few 2nd hand shops. Loved what I saw but boy was it expensive there with exchange rate. I am Canadian.

I’d go to Die Schnitzel Haus and put €5000 worth of booze and schnitzel on Jocke’s tab and sign it as ‘Paul from Cali’

Swatch/Omega museum is cool. IWC has a small museum as well.

Forget about buying a Rolex.

However in Basel there might be cool things to do.

Paul Klee foundation
Vitra design museum
Art Basel (mid June only)

Enjoy the day(s) in Interlaken.

If conditions are right, grab skis/snowboard and rent a helicopter....

Try and find the Rolex production facility. The one where they make watches for sale to the public rather than the place they make new releases and elegantly crafted adverts. I've heard Lord Lucan has an office there, the Loch Ness Monster guards the moat and you can have a ride on Shergar while you're there.

X2. A non-wis buddy who lived in Zurich recommended this for our upcoming Geneva trip.

Interlaken and then head to the top of the Schilthorn.

One of the most beautiful place I have ever been on this earth.

I would forgo anything watch related and see the sights.

Tbh, I think going to Geneva isn't worth the trip (3hrs for one way) if you're only here for one day. I'd go to Lucerne or Zurich, both approx. 1hr by train from Basel. Probably would decide for Lucerne as it's also beautiful with Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee)

I agree. Did this 30 years ago and loved it. Recommend it to a friend who was there a few months ago and it was the best part of their trip. You must stop at Murren on the way to the top of Schilthorn.

I was there in 2008 and only brought a Nikon point and shoot camera with me, so the quality of the photos is not the greatest.

That is not me parasailing through the Alps, but I do regret not doing it while there.

Very nice pics.

But it's like a photo essay.

Pic 1 Eddie happy. Woman seems content (maybe freezing)
Pic 2 Eddie serious without woman
Pic 3 Eddie sees mountain
Pic 4 Eddie sees woman jump off mountain without Eddie presumably had enough of freezing so might as well jump

A day in Geneva is exactly what is always needed on every trip to Switzerland.

The location to first head to is ... Rue du Rhône.

Its a street that looks unassuming until you actually start looking in the shop windows.

At that point you are doomed !!!

The watch selection is nothing short of mind blowing.

Along that street and some of the adjoining streets you can see the boutiques of virtually all of the "Premier" league watch houses.

Geneva is without doubt one of my favourite cities of the world. That's why I have become a regular visitor there.
