Would you trade 5968a for 5070p?
Hi guys,
Would you trade a fullset 5968a and some cash for the watch only 5070p? My collection currently has 5170p, 5968a as the chronograph. The reason I choose 5070p is that it has a more beautiful movement, case and dial than current chronograph models, but I also think it will overlap with 5170p. Hope to hear your thoughts on this matter. Thanks guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I expect to be in the minority here: I prefer 5170 (any iteration) over 5070 (any interation). Not a huge fan of 5968a so would trade that and the allotted cash towards a different piece.

Nope. I absolutely love the 5070p (and 5170p), but in this case, no way. Mainly because the 5070p is watch only. That’s a hard no for me on any watch, let alone a collectible like the 5070p.

No. Prefer 5170P over 5070P but will probably never own either. Among other reasons I value flyback pretty high and I am not sure I ever need a manual Patek chrono. The quirky 5975P has been high on my mind but it is more expensive than I like.

I prefer the modern Patek inhouse movement of the 5170 over the Lemania based 5070 movement. There are so many improvements, major of which, is the chrono can be left running without added wear to the gears.

Thanks guys for the input. It is nice to see many people love the 5170p. I agree that being watch only is a big minus point. It is also great to learn many improvements in the new inhouse caliber from Lemania-based movement.

If you must have the 5070P, then I'd consolidate to the 5990 and 5070P. You get sport and a dressier chronograph (assuming your wrist can handle the sizes). That would be a really cool double Patek chrono collection.

How about 5270?
I have both 5270 and 5968a and think the 5270 is so much nicer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nope. Like many here I prefer the 5170P over the 5070P and the 5968A adds a lot of versatility to the collection.

Thanks all. 5990 is big for me, and I just prefer chronograph only for aesthetic purpose. It seems I shouldnt do the trade from all your thoughts here.

The 5968 is the perfect sport chrono because of its simplicity, legibility and durability. It excels where the 5960 and the 5980 fail which is why it trades for more than either of them. It's hard to believe the 5968 is a Patek.

It would depend on what else I had in my collection… But I wouldn’t make that trade for a 5070. For a 5270… Yes.

100% if only it was a little smaller than 42+mm. The 5990 is the worst of them all IMO, such a mess in terms of case design. Less is more. Which is also why I'd rather have a 5170P than a 5270 in any variation.

Thanks all for the input. It seems my 5170p and 5968a are the best combo.

How times change… ten years ago everyone liked 5070 over 5170 and I was in the minority. Now it seems everyone has flip flopped. Reminds me how everyone use to prefer ROO over RO on the AP side.

U want to trade the aquanaut and keep the 5170 & 5070?
I would stay or keep the aqua and trade the 5170 for 5070 for a more diverse pair. But!… I agree with others the 5070 without a full set is probably not a move I would make unless you really are certain it’s a watch you will keep for life. Or I would keep the aqua and sell the 5170 and continue to search for a complete 5070. In other words, the aqua is the last piece that moves because of its versatility and wearability.

You are totally correct that unless I want 5070p to keep for life, I shouldnt make the trade. It is my exit watch so thats why I have such dilemma 🥲 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

As far as the Nautilus line is concerned, anything more complicated than the 5711 is pushing it, yet the 5968 works for me because they stripped it to the basics except for the date. |
