Who the heck knows... It does make sense that the SS Sub gets an update. Maybe Rolex feels that selling that in "volume" will help drag us out of the recession

My guess is physically it will be identical to the GMT II C. I just hope the center links are not polished but I think they will be.
The anticipation for Basel 2010.................... |

Because Rolex stated the SS would come out in 2010 to James Dowling at his meeting with them at Basel 2009?
Seems like decent evidence. See James's report in the Basel section on that other watch forum. |

You're welcome, Joe. Of course, there is a price difference of about $2K between the 2 models, the newer one being a bit more expensive.

Here is James's Quote - What do ya think?
"Confirmed by Rolex in person to me Dec 12, 2009 - 02:43 AM
Hi All; At last year's Basel Fair, a senior Rolex official replied to my direct question as to when the all steel ceramic bezel version would be available, he told me that it would be in the windows of their Basel stand 'Next Year'; in other words in a little over 4 months. He declined to answer the question as to whether the current models would be discontinued at that time, I expect that question to be answered at the show. Good Luck James" |

I would prefer they leave the SS as is and not release a new version if they intend to foul it up with PCL.

Oh for a cobalt maxi-dial and glidelock.....A flat baby blue dial is very unfortunate indeed

I was in my AD this week and he said that they were unable to order anymore SS Subs or Explorers. That was leading him to believe that it was going to be updated in 2010. Also rumor of no more ND Sub.

I am so against the ceramic bezel on the Exp II, it's not funny. It's supposed to be a rugged watch, designed for adventurers! Not for some male version of Paris Hilton to show off at a party.

So anyway I ask him do you have the new catalogue ...blabla .. we come to next Basel fair ...blabla .... I as a absolute cunt ask ..will they present the new ceramic Sub ? he simply answers .. what new SUB ? We as AD's are as much in the know as you people fantasying about it . With Rolex everything is possible , but only they decide it . We ( AD's) take it and get the price list and sometimes the watch we want ... |

You know my wife says the same thing ...Well, I got nothing positive to say for ROLEX's new directions and designs .... they are bastardizing the rolexes ... especially the ones I care about, like the SUB ....I guess they have given into the BIGGER IS BETTER hype and moving away from classism --- which has brought them this far ....

I really like the Jubilee bracelet, I think it wears more than the Oyster but it gives the watch another look.

I'm probably going out on a limb here but since I have only recently got into Rolex I only prefer the newer designs. In fact when I tried on on an Explorer II I was seriously underwhelmed by it. I genuinely hope that the Explorer II gets the update but personally can't see Rolex giving us two SS sport watches in one go but if they do I would probably take it over a ceramic SS Sub unless this comes in a colour other than black.
I recall that someone did a photoshop of what an Explorer IIc might look like. It was a GMTIIc but the dial was white, had an orange 24hr hand and the bezel was the reverse i.e. black numbers on a silver/grey background and it looked fantastic can anyone remind me where this pic is? Thanks. |

I for one am looking forward to the new Sub - I think the 16610 is in desperate need of an update, and I think the Glidelock clasp and solid link bracelet will be worth the price increase alone. Hopefully they'll refrain from PCLs, and take the really nice bits from the Deepsea and incorporate them onto a more wearable case.
