Thinking about Getting a Daytona
Saw a two-tone one in a store the other day, and I have been thinking about it ever since. There seems to be a lot of them around here on the Forum. The only problem I have, and it will not keep me from getting one, is there is no date on the watch. Most of my watches have the date function, so I am definitely going to be looking for it, but I guess I can get over it. Also, to those of you here that own one, I don't mean to sound stupid, but what is the function of the press buttons on the watch? I saw this watch in the case, but didn't even ask to hold it yet. I am going back Saturday to try the watch on and if it sings to me, I will own it, for a while anyway. I have seen quite a few on TV also, I know the "Acting Boss", Jackie Aprile wore one on the Sopranos until he died and his stupid wife Rosalie gave it to Father Intintola. I was also wondering, is the Daytona more popular than the Submariner?

TT Daytona is a great looking watch!
But, like you observe, not very functional, I used one just to show off for special occasions |

Buttons are for the stopwatch (and tachometer) function.

I wear mine every day, and I'm not a race-car driver. I actually do use the stop watch on occasion, from timing various things, but back to the point; I wonder how many people wearing the submariner are really divers? Or how many with a Milgaus work in a labratory?, or how many with a GMT are pilots? If you need a function on a watch then get whatever you need, however if you are looking for a fine timepiece that you will wear, enjoy and generally be happy with, get the one you like, regardless of any un-used functions.

I say go for it! They are extremely comfortable, have an excellent movement, and are a lot more durable than people think. I do miss the date when I have mine on (vs my DJ) but to be honest, It only comes out on weekends and special occasions/holidays.
In my opinion, a date would ruin the dial.... |

Its a great watch, and if you like it enough the date thing won't be an issue.

I use mine to time the oven temp increases at my lab. My livelihood is dependent on my Daytona.

I didn't know he wore one. I'll have to go back and check out the watches in this show again!

Wow I find the Chrono very functional!
I use chronos quite often from timing the steak on the grill to seeing how long many various activities take. Is it a function I truly need? Not at all, but it is one I use quite often and find I really appreciate it. I do not have a Daytona as in addition to the Chrono I am a BIG fan of the date on a watch. Myself I find a Chrono and Date the most useful functions on a watch. Another bonus is if it is a 12 hr chrono you can actually use it as a GMT if truly needed. (just start the chrono at midnight in your homezone or the zone you are traveling to and then set the other dial to the other timezone)

I'm thinking about buying a tt Daytona, this spring. The buttons are the stopwatch function. I've got a GP 7000 chronograph and have yet to use the stopwatch even once. But, I still like that watch.
The Daytona always impresses me with the way it "wears". It wears a bit smaller than many other 40mm watches, and it looks much better in person than in photos. Each time I put one on, I'm amazed at how good it looks. |

Exactly! Carmella and Rosalie were sitting at the table when father Intintola came in and sat down. Rosalie said, "How are you liking the watch, father", He responded, "I love it, I finally figured out what the other functions were for". Then Carmella said, "Is that Jackie's watch?" If you look closely, you can tell it is a two tone Daytona.

A Daytona was my grail watch. However, I let my brain rule my gut and bought an Omega Speedmaster Professional instead. Now 2 years later I have never looked back. Cheers, Bill P.
