Welcom to TRF..
A GMT that early would be a nice vintage item to have. Should you wear it? I don't know - if it's mint, a true collector might get nervous about that ![]() However, a watch is made to be worn and a well made one, like Rolex, will last for many years. I have 40+ year old watches I wear on occasion and I expect they will last another 40 years - I would not be shy about wearing an early Rolex. value... couldn't say ![]() |

Serial number
The paper work I have has a serial number of 623xxx, which I researched to be a 1947? I will try to load up some pic later today. I have several misc. documents from Switzerland and South Africa. Do any of you know approx what this Rolex is valued at. It is in good shape for its age. A little fading on the bezel. But keeps great time. I do not want to sell it, since I would like to foward my watch collection to my children so they can keep a family heirlom.
Any insight would be great! Thanks. |

Wow Marty that is an awesome watch!!!!!!!!!!!
The small luminous dot below the 6 O'Clock marker adds to the value and the desirability of your watch. A watch almost identical to yours was recently for sale for and asking price of US$10,500 (in the USA). I would say that your watch would be worth in the region of $7-10,000, give or take a couple of $K So this should give you an idea of what your watch may be worth. I strongly feel that your watch was manufactured in the early 1960's between 1960-63. Different sources will provide different serial number dating answers, but I have looked at your model for a long time, and so I would believe strongly in my dating estimation. The model is a 1675 and with the pointed crown guards and chapter ring, this model occurred 1960-63. Now I cannot stop drouling.......I've almost short circuited my computer. |

Well first the big give away is the crown guards that were first introduced in 1960 on the 1675 so afraid yours must be 1960 on.Now the first GMT in 1954 were basically a TOG 6202 with cal 1035.But with added upgraded 24 hour drive wheel making it into the cal 1065 these were only produced to the end of 1959 no crown guard model 6542. These are the most sort after GMT and now as rare as hens teeth and command high prices. Some reference books gives it that the 1675 was introduced late 1959 to early 1960.And now very collectable especially with a original riveted bracelet and think it might be a 7206.Now as for price in your condition watch around the $8 -$10 but now getting rarer by the day, so could get a bit more to the right collector.
