New to the Forums, and to rolex

I just purchased my first rolex. Stainless Submariner. I am so excited. I have been a watch fan for a long time, but not up to the caliber of some of the finest (Patek, Rolex, Briet ect.) and now finally have my very own. I am a college student here in florida. Many of my peers think its a waste of money, but what they fail to understand is that it's an investment that I can play with!
Just thought I would drop in and say hello!!
Phillip

Don't worry about your friends. Like our mod Daren says "you either get it, or you don't."

We have several members from that neck of the woods. We've got a place on S. Ocean Blvd, but only get down there about 5 times a year for long weekends.

Great watch Phillip, and welcome. The thing about saving for the Omega is that once you've been bitten by the Rolex bug it might not measure up. I got an Omgea after purchasing my first Rolex and ended up trading it up (with cash) for a Rolex, which will always hold it's value.

I agree

Rolex just seems to go that "Omega-Breitling" way (i.e. BLING-BLING!-way) recently.

But be careful about getting TOO excited about that new Sub Date of yours so that you do NOT forget to SCREW IN THE CROWN before swimming with it or washing it.

Congrats on a true classic. But be warned. It can start an addiction that's hard to stop and very costly.

Welcome to the forum-you can learn a lot here. As many have already noted, the Submariner is a classic and is perhaps the most iconic dive watch of all time. Enjoy your new watch. If you decide to save to buy an Omega next, you will not only be in good company, but Omega also makes outstanding watches. Good luck.
