New sub 12 sec fast

After 3 days my previously unworn 2008 sub is still consistently 12 sec fast. Amplitude is 315. What do I do? Thanks (new to forum)

Welcome and first off amplitude is too high should be around 300 so could be stuck hairspring or various problems with oiling you say it is unworn in 4 years bring it in for an adjustment and lookover best advice. Rikki

Well consistency is the most important with a mechanical watch is it 12 seconds daily, or 12 seconds over 72 hours. The COSC chronometer spec is a Average of -4 to+6 seconds over a 24 hour period.Have you fully manually wound your watch to start before wearing the amplitute is slightly high should be nearer 300.

Thanks. I had local watch repairman put it on a timing machine again this am and amplitude was 308. But it has been running each and every day for the past three days, 12 seconds fast per 24hrs - almost zero variation. I have been wearing it for 3 days straight and keeping it on at night.

Is something or is just a matter of getting regulated? I could keep it on for a few more days/weeks it that helps?

Thanks for attention.

Why didn't the repairman regulate it when he had it on the machine? if it is consistantly off 12 secs a day it is well within regulating. Rikki

He said he would but he was just a guy in a booth off 47th street so I wasn't sure if I could trust his skills.

Is regulating down from 12 seconds something basically any half decent watch repair guy can be trusted with?

Or do I take it to RSC on 52nd and 5th or Wempe or eomeplace like that??

Thanks again for helping!!

Does a larger than normal amplitude make a watch run faster or slower?

I took my old ('71) DJ out for a run and it was 1 hour fast in the first day. I left it on the winder for a week and it slowly came back to +12 seconds which is good. I thought this was due to the amplitude increasing as the old boy's memory returned.

slower because the balance is going farther in both directions so takes a tad longer to come around and impulse the balance wheel. Rikki
