Shorts, flip flops, tee shirt and a Rolex. At Leeds & Sons in Palm Desert looking for a specific PAM. Didn't have it but pulled a new 2007 GMT ll Pepsi from the vault after some casual chit chat. Really great AD experience and bagged a grail. My lucky day.

When visiting an AD, just like when dining at a restaurant, it is good manners to show respect by dressing up for the occasion.

When I browse an AD, it is during off work hours, and I'm walking through the mall with my family. During those times, I'm usually wearing jeans and a t-shirt or polo. They've always treated me with a lot of respect.
I think the O.P. is on to something though. Sometimes you negotiate a better deal when you're dressed better. I've always intentionally gone looking at cars during work hours, or right after work, while I'm in slacks, dress shirt, and a tie if earlier than 4pm. It probably subconsciously tells the salesman that, based on the way I'm dressed, I'm a professional who's less prone to falling for tricks. |

T shirt, shorts and flip flops. If you have the cash to spend, it really doesn't matter.

Me too, except that I typically fly in shorts or baggy cotton utilities and a T-shirt.

On this past Monday, I and my wife walked into a posh AD in Chester UK, and I walked out with this on my wrist
I was wearing diesel jeans, trainers, and a dainese T shirt... My wife was wearing army camo pants, catapiller boots and a T shirt... We were treated impeccably by the sales lady, even got offerd hot or cold drinks... Perfect experience.. |

Actually this topic comes up quite a lot, often associated with one's treatment by staff relative to one's attire.

I always visit my AD casually attired, which for me is jeans, a t-shirt, a mock turtleneck, or a Hawaiian shirt, depending on the weather and my mood, and some casual footwear ranging from boots, to sneakers, to sandals.
It never seems to matter what I'm wearing, as long as I'm decent, I'm always treated well and pay MSRP.

I believe I was in shorts, flip-flops, and a T-shirt for my last purchase.
Just so you know, I am posting this WITHOUT reading everyone else's responses. Knowing this crew, there are going to be some eyeball-wrenching photos posted that have nothing to do with the member posting them, but instead are there as gratuitous examples of "what not to wear". . . . . As I've just had dinner, I will peruse those later, after an appropriate digestif (or perhaps two or three) has been consumed.

I walk into AD's with my Leopard Skin Speedo on, all the time. They love me there.

I bought mine from an actual AD and I have no idea what I was wearing, I wasn't expecting to purchase that day.

Probably what I usually wear. Polo shirt and Hilfiger jeans. I have a fondness for air jordans. I'm treated like a king any time I go into an AD.
