Care for GMT Master ii

I apologize in advance for my naïveté. I've always had subs but recently got my first GMT. Can anyone give me a quick breakdown of the do's and don'ts for how to care for this movement? I vaguely remember a thread where someone (I think) moved the hour hand in reverse just after the date had changed and it caused some sort of issue. But when I searched for this I couldn't find it. Please teach me

And a pic, why not.

No issue moving the hour hand that I'm aware of. I adjust mine with reckless endangerment. My understanding of the instant date change is that it's not connected directly to the movement.

I'm sure you'll get a better answer. By the way, I'm not careful with my SubCs either.

You may be think of what you've read regarding other watches. For example, some Breitlings the date should not be changed between the hours of 8pm and 3am.

The reason you should not set the date between 8pm and 3am is because the automatic date change may have already begun and the gears are in the process of engaging. When you manually adjust the date during those hours you can damage the gears that change the date, causing the date wheel to not function properly.

This is not the case for the GMT as the date can be change separately with out advancing hand hands.

Nice BLNR. Im missing mine as i having the Cyclops replaced in it.

Thanks fritz! I needed to get the BLNR because I sold my 116610 and I really missed it. I have 2 subs and a deep blue and the deep blue was dominating my wrist time so I needed a stainless everyday watch with a cyclops. It's really a beauty! Thanks again for the info

I know. I said moving the hour hand backwards after the date changes. So what happens if you do this on GMT - the date goes back?

It creates a surge in the time continuum creating a time paradox and breaking the flux capacitor! Its all explained in back to the future, 1,2 and 3!

;-)

Sorry, couldnt't resist it! Just a bit of levity...

Yes, it brings back the date... Never thought about the impact... Now i'm concerned, is there a difference between models of GMT's?

Service every 10 years or so. Don't go below 300ft under water. Other than that should be good.

Yes. It can go backwards without damaging the movement.

OP - I know what you are referring to and I believe this applies to older movements in older GMT references. Your BLNR can move in either direction just fine. Not to worry.

Yes, you can change the date forward and backward as you please. In fact you may need to sometime set the gmt hand say to 1am and then local time to 8pm and local time date is say the 19th and time 2 is the 20th.
