Agree with everyone above. Suede is quite durable and since protected with spray, they are my go- to wet weather shoes.

Dang, you guys had to start talking about suede.
I was fighting the urge for a new pair of boots while the Allen Edmonds sale was still going on but ended up caving for these... I have several pairs of suede shoes and they have held up very well even under inclement winter conditions here in Colorado (with protection properly applied, of course)

Took my dad to Ferragamo to get him a pair of nice loafers.
He's not one to ever spend on himself. Or not that much on a pair of shoes. Complete disaster. Sigh.

Nope.
He didn't even want to go in. I took the salesperson aside and told her to bring out a few pairs. He wouldn't even try them on at first. He couldn't handle me spending that amount on a pair of shoes for him. Eventually he just felt so uncomfortable that he stood up, thanked the staff and said we should go. Will try again at the next Nordstrom anniversary sale and tell him that they are on sale so it's OK.

I went through the same process when I bought him his watch. He wouldn't even entertain the thought of wearing a new Rolex, so I bought him a late 60's 1601 with a price in the psychologically acceptable range. He wears it everywhere. I still can't buy him dress shoes though, he considers $100 too much for a pair of shoes. |

She was great though. Totally understood what I was trying to do. My dad is the same way about shoes. I think the most he's ever spent is around $150 and that was an extreme situation. Oh well. So much for that. Will try again in a few months.

The other day my dad was bragging to me about buy a pair of $100 shoes. Here's the kicker - I know he probably paid closer to $30-$40 and only said $100 because he thinks that is ridiculous money for shoes. He was trying to be funny. |

Haha. I think we all have the same Dad. There isn't much my dad will spend over $100 on, haha. That's why he's smarter than I am.

My dad wore nice shoes but I will never forget when we visited his cousin in Fresno around 1980 and my dad found he spent $150 on a pair of alligator shoes. My dad quieted down when his cousin said "well Joe, they are already 30 years old".

It was drizzling this morning. Perfect excuse to wear my Conistons!
I took a picture today, but it came out lousy so here they are when they were new. I love these boots... super comfortable. Perfect for inclement weather. |

Very nice. I really like those.
I couldn't help myself and ordered two more pairs of Mcallisters from the AE sale. Price was too good for shoes I know fit me perfectly. Brown and Chili, but both are backordered for a month in my size. I think I'm done with AE for now. Will take your suggestions and try some English brands next |

Gentlemen, I've realized a few of your guys have an amazing collection of shoes that are lacking in a collection of creases. How do you guys do it?! I joked that my lady is going to have to carry me everywhere so that my shoes can always looks as crisp and clean as the first time I took them out of the box.

There is nothing wrong with a pair of well worn shoes. In many cases, shoes look even better when they're worn vs new. Just keep them cleaned and shined and you're good!! |

I've worn my walnut strands for more than a year. Maybe once or twice a week max and they have no severe creases. They look amazing. My merlot Mcallisters were on sale but they only had a 10.5E and not an EE so they are a bit more snug and I could immediately feel a crease forming on the right shoe, but not on the left because my right foot is slightly wider. I've only worn them 5-6 times and there is an obvious crease unlike my Strands which look almost perfect. I tend to be a little neurotic when it comes to taking care of my shoes. As soon as I get home, they get laced up and shoe trees go in. Leather conditioner and polish as needed. Usually after wearing 4-5 times or as needed. I wear a rubber glove and really get the polish or conditioner into the leather. There is just something about polishing and buffing shoes that I enjoy. Two more Mcallisters coming in a month. Both the perfect 10.5EE. Will see how they hold up. |

For me, the only exception is these:
I've had these Alden Ravello shell boots for almost 2 years and they are still unworn. LOL

Did someone say shoes?
Yes, I've been known to seek them out. Long ago I was told "it's the shoes and the watch that make the man" I solved the shoes ( this is even an older pic, more in there now) Last week, finally got the watch. The sneaky thing with shoes, you have to get the matching belt. It adds up! |
