Exp II dial swap? White to Black
This is my first post and only joined not long ago, but I have followed this site for quite a while. I have posted on another Rolex forum, but this site has much more interesting topics.
Anyway.... I had given my father in law my EXP II a few months back. He really liked it and got the Rolex bug and bought himself a Rolex day/date about a week ago. That model is more of his style. Lucky for me he gave me back the Exp II. I want/would like to swap out the white dial for a black dial. I know RUSA does not allow this. RCanada does, but will not accept shipments from outside their borders. They said it was because of "Customs". Does anyone here have any recommendations on this other than getting a new watch? I would prefer to have both dials so I can swap back since I still like the white. The black, to me, is more versatile. Thanks a bunch |

Note that you not only have to do a dial swap but also swap out the hands.

Check with the independent RSC in San Francisco to see if they would do a swap. You won't get the old parts back, but they might change the dial and hands for you.

buy the dial on ebay or another well know site for rolex parts and then have a watchsmith do the swap for you so you can keep both

HAve any friends or relatives in the UK? If so, items such as dials, clasps, bezel inserts, etc are easily purchased from any AD. I would also place a WTB in the classifieds of this site. Good luck,

The UK will not swap or switch color on the dials or sell just the dial and hands.
I have been watching ebay, but haven't seen any for the ExpII. I don't really trust ebay for these items. Could you please PM me the info for the SanFran RSC please? I did know about the hands also, but forgot to mention it. I am still not sure why RCanada will not accept it. I checked with US Customs and UPS/USPS/FedEx and they will ship it. It's just that RC will not accept it. (tariffs/duty fees?)

Bezels YES.....all day long!
Dials are another thing. I know someone from another forum that called RUK himself and had his AD call also. NO LUCK I even walked it into RSC Dallas and asked if they could swap it due to "Vision Problems" with the white and NO LUCK. She did say that it had been done before, but not in the last year. Rule changes I guess. I had heard that they had done this due to some people haveing problems with the contrast on the white, which is why I gave it a shot. I have 20/20 vision...still! Love the watch! Just want the black dial.......along with the white! LOL!!

Duty/brokerage + headaches for them too. Don't you know anyone in Canada that could take care of it for you? I can give you the contact name at my local AD.. You could try calling him to see if he can help. |

I guess when the watch needs to be serviced, send it back home to Switzerland and have the dial changed there, I cant imagine they would say no.

I would definitely try contacting independent service centers or watchmakers like the one in San Francisco. Company policy pretty much takes all of the RSC's (Beverly Hills, Dallas and New York RSC's) out of the equation since they keep any parts that they replace.
If you contact the independent RSC in San Francisco, you can also arrange for them to perform the dial and hand change for you. I can give you their contact information if you wish. I would trust them over any other independent watchmaker. Best of luck!

Because the one in SF is just an authorised service center, it isn't owned by Rolex like the RSC's.

I just got off the phone with RSC SanFran.
They told me the same thing my AD and RSC Dallas had told me. They will not swap dials on the professional series! He did say that he will look for an old dial he thinks he has in the back and will send it in for a new one. If he does in fact have one to send in and does get a new one in return, he said that they will do the swap. NO promises........ I guess I will know sometime tomorrow if he finds it or not. Fingers are crossed!
