Anybody watch Pawn Stars?

Met Rick in Vegas, he enjoys flying drones and will probably be one of my students to obtain his FAA 107 (Drone) License. A really nice guy

I'm sorry.

The show is good, it is heavily scripted though, but definitely entertaining.

Yep, we get that show in Australia. Have watched it a couple of times and recognise Rick.
Not sure who the doubtful character with him is. Looks like a sleezy 'Snake-Oil' salesman.

Of which he must be very proud.

If I had a son with a single digit IQ I guarantee you I wouldn't put him on a TV show.

Commercially. Back yard drone commanders can still harass airliners and the neighbors dog at will.

Very cool, Paul. Say, who exactly needs an FAA license to fly drones these days? Every hobbyist, or who specifically? Thanks, Paul.

You know, you can pay a thousand bucks for a watch like that.

Yes, it's the FAA license and training piece I am interested in. Understand need to register. Maybe I will be taking a class from Paul!

Rick was truly a nice guy, it was a pleasure hanging out with him. As to everybody's questions:

In the eyes of the FAA:

1. EVERY Drone (over nine ounces, those little play toys don't count) MUST be registered with the FAA, including a tail number. You can use the serial number of the done, or stencil your own on the drone, whatever. You do this on the FAA website and it costs $5. Even if you're just out for fun, flying a drone in national airspace requires it be registered.

2. ANYTIME you use a drone for other then just recreation, you MUST have a Drone operators license; otherwise known as an FAA Part 107. It looks exactly like a regular Pilot's license but has UAS on the side. This is called comercial use. Obvious examples are someone using a drone to video an event, or doing surveys, etc. But others include a company using a drone for security of their property, the operator must be 107 licensed. The FAA is cracking down hard on people using drones without a 107, the minimum is a $10,000 fine. My advice? Just go get one.

3. There are two ways to get your 107 license:

A. You are a Licensed Pilot, and CURRENT, all you have to do is take a 30 question safety quiz on line, from the FAA; (I think they charge you $5 but it might be free). Once you pass, you simply apply, again on line, and they mail you your license.

B. You take a written exam, 60 questions long, at an authorized FAA testing facility. The cost is $150.

What my company does, is drone training, hands-on, with corporations, police departments, military units and individuals desiring to start a drone business. We also prepare people for taking the 107 test with both on line and in person training sessions; the on line is $250. I don't want to turn this in to advertising but if anyone is interested the website is: www.uxvuniversity.com. If you click on "Resources" and then "Management" you will see the picture and bio of an incredibly handsome director of flight training...... ahem.

Anyway, if anyone has any questions please feel free to IM me. .

Below are pictures of my regular Pilot's license and my Drone Pilot's license.

Very cool. I love the show. As long as you know it is scripted, it is very entertaining. Rick is my favorite because he has a genuine love of knowledge and history. He is like a kid in a candy shop every time someone brings in an interesting piece.
