ORIGINAL ART of brown/black bears?
firstly bear (sorry)in mind i'm in the UK
i collect original wildlife art and there are two/three things missing from my collection so far a) brown bear b) black bear c) saltwater crocodile obviously the UK/USA is not the best source for saltwater crocodiles but the USA has plenty of the bears - lucky guys i have spoken to some of the UK's most respected wildlife artists about a commission of bear art but their 'subjects' would be in a zoo environment and not acting naturally i have looked online and not found anything i like as most especially with brown bears shows them in an aggressive stance with jaws open which is not what i want has any artist worked with the Katmai bears? work can be oil or watercolour and a large painting is preferred thanks in anticipation |

Have you googled Alaska art galleries? Call a couple galleries up there and I'm sure they can connect you with an artist.

Maybe contact a painter and find an image that suits you? Then have the painter paint the image for you?
I know that Konsta Punkka (instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kpunkka/) has amazing wildlive pictures, some of brown bear too. I wouldn't mind having some of his pictures on my wall. Also maybe screen grabs from the Planet earth series and have those painted? |

Google art galleries in Gatlinburg Tennessee. We frequent them in the fall but don't remember a specific artist. Everything. There is cabins and bears. And I have been so close to pulling the trigger on some beautiful bear paintings but the wife says my 4' x 4' longhorn painting in my office is enough.

Try Calgary in Canada.
Lots of nature around there and a big tourist destination. I noticed a few shops selling some nice art and nature items.

Suggest you Google Bev Doolittle's " Double Back" if you like bears.

thanks for all comments
had a look at Bev Doolittle and did not like her work - but thanks for the suggestion asking for a commission from a photograph is a total no-no based on comments from numerous artists if you want to paint something then you have to know your subject and with an animal its the way it moves and the way light works on its fur etc one artist i approached in the UK spent a couple of days at a zoo watching brown bears and said they were what they are - caged animals showing depression/boredom and declined the commission - well done unfortunately a lot of US artists seem to want to show brown bears as aggressive so you see art/photographs with the mouth open in 'attack mode' if you like? i have fished in Alaska among wild brown bears and admire them - they are not a threat unless you as a human cross a certain threshold i did have a young male who wanted the salmon i had hooked - dropped rod and walked away - he took the salmon and even left the hook! i would love an original piece at one of the Katmai falls (Brooks Falls?) with numerous bears in fishing positions related to their hierarchy - its finding the right artist who can paint bears and at the same time capture salmon and water - not easy |

Edit: I just googled "artists who paint serene pictures of alaskan brown bears" and got a number of hits. The first one listed was this guy - http://winfree-studio.com/alaska-brown-bears.html |
