Choosing between a Pelagos or an Explorer

I own both a Rolex and a Tudor. That being said, I think you should go with the Explorer II first. There's honestly no better way to reward yourself than with the crown. The Pelagos is a fantastic piece, one that I'm considering myself. But there is just no substitute for the king (or queen).

I was recently fortunate enough to be able to handle both of these back to back. Neither of these were on my list but were presented to me as an alternative and based on my tastes. So here is my opinion:

Pelagos: is for you if you are an avid diver and you care for the depth rating. It also has a very neat clasp. I didn't like the small teeth on the bezel and overall I felt it was somehow less substantial than the Rolex. Also, I think that the snowflake hands are a love it or hate it affair and I feel like I don't love them. So overall I personally think the Pelagos is a great daily watch and something you buy to wear when you want to be nice to your Rolex.

EII White - the dial has grown on me substantially. I absolutely love the black frame hands and black frames around the indecies. I love the orange and I love the way the watch is built and the way it sits. To me it feels like a nicer watch relative to the Pelagos. Between the two I would hands down go with the EII. That said the EII is almost double the price and does not have the same depth rating or as trick of a clasp.

I think you need to sit down and figure out how you are going to use the watch and that should give you a better direction.

Get the Rolex first.

Polar Explorer II especially since you love to travel. The independent setting hour hand and the ability to check the "back home" time at a glance makes it a perfect travel watch.

Holy cow, you didn't like Pelagos. I have been looking at the blue lately to comment my black sub. Maybe wearing it on the rubber strap. Other than what you said, do you have further insight as to why you hated it?

Same as Mark really. I mentioned earlier that it simply felt cheap. I know it's Titainium which I hoped would be a "feature" but combined with sharp edges and not so fine finishing, the lightweight quality became a quick con, ultimately making it feel like a toy to me.

It's not that I hate the watch by any means, but for the money I'd much rather the black bay, certain omegas, even a couple of Sinn divers feel like a significantly higher quality IMO.

If you gave me one for free I'd wear it once and a while, or if offered at a ridiculously discounted price, I'd consider buying one. But I have no interest in it at it's current price point, and I'd choose the Explorer over it any day, even if it means saving and spending more money.
