Tried on the Snowflake

I'm thinking it will be my next.

Felt and fit great.

Did not notice any obvious gap in the end links and their fit. Maybe not quite as tight as a Rolex, but the shine and the dial is something else.

The lack of micro adjustment is definitely a negative, but I can get over it.

I also didn't realize how brilliant the white of the snowflake dial is. Made the Rolex white dial look dull by comparison.

BTW, they had two at the boutique. Neither on display.

One was already spoken for.

Yeah. I'm getting close, but I promised myself that I would take my time on all watch purchases going forward.

Boutique doesn't discount, but they do include the first service.

Might just get it from there at retail since there isn't a huge difference (compared to a discount or TS) if I factor in the cost of a spring drive service down the road.

Looks good on your wrist, and a free springdrive service is a good discount, even if someway down the road.

If I do get it from an AD and have it shipped, I'm curious as to sizing the bracelet though. Screws wouldn't be an issue, but always worry about pins.

I sized my GS myself. It is reall not hard. You just need to keep track of the sleeve and the direction they go . There are arrow indicators on the bracelet.

Yeah, I've done those kinds of bracelets before, but just wary of the titanium. Or if I get it from the boutique, I guess it won't be a concern.

I guess I'm aiming for next weekend.

I was trying on the Snowflake at a boutique this past weekend also, and the salesman told me the same about the included first service. However, he mentioned that it would be at five years. Albeit free is free and I'd be glad to have it, would you guys agree that a service at that interval is too soon for a piece of that quality? I think I would want to save my "free" service for a little further down the line.

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing.

The person at the NYC boutique said first service at 5-7 years but I didn't specifically ask if that's what they required or if it was mandatory at a specific time.

To the OP,
So, you went for the SD movement over the others; good luck, enjoy your new timepiece. You also said the snowflake dial was outstanding, which I can only tell by comparison in your photo, haven’t seen in person. Besides the dial, what else about this model did you prefer? Was the Spring Drive movement a clear favorite over the HB? Other features? I am just getting acquainted with the GS line, planning to get to a dealer in the next week or so, and seeking input from owners. Thanks,

The dial is something that definitely needs to be seen in person. My pictures are terrible and don't do it any justice.

I know the high beat is great, and I may add one at some point, but I wanted something different. Some people are turned off by Spring Drive not being a purely mechanical movement and I can understand that viewpoint, but it's really unlike anything else. There is something hypnotic about the second hand movement in a spring drive that I didn't really appreciate until I was looking at it on my wrist.

I can't speak too much about the weight because I only tried it on for a few minutes, but it's definitely different if you're used to wearing a steel or pm watch. I've had titanium watches in the past so I like the lightweight feel.

An adjustable clasp would have been ideal, but I've had watches in the past that did not have any adjustment and it's been fine. Just going to keep it slightly loose and use a half link extra if needed to deal with a swelling wrist.

On a more personal note, one of my best friends is Japanese. We grew up together from childhood all the way through high school, so I've always had great respect for Japanese culture. I feel like I need to have a Grand Seiko.

My friend lives in Tokyo now and I plan on visiting him in the near future. There is no other watch I would want to wear in Japan.
