Finally a convert

I have gone through the full cycle of only knowing about Rolex to looking down at the brand to admiring what it represents. Although I still feel that other brands like JLC and GO make overall better watches in terms of movement and finish in the same price range, Rolex has no comparison in terms of a rugged tool luxury watch that will go on forever and hold its value extremely well.

After hearing about other's experience, I realized my best chance for hard-to-get models was with a local AD. I called the AD in March to put down my name for a GMT Batman and Daytona Ceramic. I was told that those watches were allocated based on past purchase history and relationship. I had been contemplating a Rolex daily wearer for some time and looking at DJ 36, Explorer 1 and Rolex Sub. Narrowed it down to Sub ND. The AD was able to get the watch in 2 days. At the AD, I got the chance to compare both the Sub and Sub date and found the Sub date more attractive. So, long story short, I will get my first Rolex in hand tomorrow. Had the watch shipped to a friend out of state to save on tax.

I am still on the waitlist for both the GMT Batman and Daytona. While I feel that the Daytona is perhaps years(s) away, Batman seems more realistic in the next few months. I have also been looking at the Hulk pictures in the last few days and find the watch really attractive. Will two steel subs be an overkill in a small collection?

I have a small wrist, 6.5~ inches, so anything above 40 mm is too big for me.

Congrats on your first! Adding another Sub (the LVc) to your collection as your next watch is totally your call. However, I will say the BLNR GMT would be a great addition and adds variety to your new Rolex SS sports collection with a different complication. I absolutely love mine and have found it to be getting the most wrist time out of my Rolex collection since picking it up. A few months wait (ideally shorter) for that watch sounds reasonable to me.

One other piece of advice - don't compromise for what you really want! You're about to pick up your first Rolex - a damn fine one (SubC Date) at that. Enjoy it and don't taint the "honeymoon" phase with thoughts of what your next purchase is going to be. After a little time you'll know what you'd like to add to your collection next; no need to force thinking about the decision until the time is right.

Congrats on the sub! Enjoy it before thinking of your next piece.. I do prefer the blnr to go with your sub, but can’t go wrong with a hulk also. Congrats and enjoy!
