So if any of you are in the same situation, how do you make room for both your Rolex and your Apple Watch in your life? If my Rolex were more of a dress or "special occasions" watch it would be easier, but my 16570 is a true part of me.
Anyone found a balance that works for you?
When I became aware of quality time pieces I stopped wearing toys.....

I understand your 'problem'. I would like to own an Apple watch but wouldn't know when to wear it. It would feel wrong leaving my Rolex on my nightstand and leaving the house with an Apple watch. Wearing both at the same time isn't really my taste, plus my right wrist is allready taken by some bracelets.
I tjink the Apple watch is pretty handy for holydays when hanging around in the pool, but that's just a couple of weeks a year. It doesn't make sense to buy one just for that.
So yeah, I would like to own one, but probably will not because it's kind of silly to have it in a drawer for most of the year.

I have two Rolex’s, two Omega’s and several other mechanicals that I rotate daily. But I wear my series 5 Apple Watch daily for working out and in the evenings around the house.

I've worn my apple watch for more than two years, every single day without fail. First a series 3 and now a 4. My Explorer is still wrapped in its box awaiting Christmas Day (wife's orders) so I broke out my old Citizen Nighthawk from my undergrad days. It was difficult to adjust to at first. I've used the Apple watch to control my audiobooks, check the weather, discretely view texts, set reminders and make calls when my iPhone slipped off the dock never to be seen again. Admittedly I'm a bit of an Apple fanboy. All of the gadgetry is very cool and habit forming. However what I learned when not wearing it was that not being connected 100% of the day was absolutely fantastic! It will still be used for workouts though.

My balance is it died a quick death at the hands of a tile floor. Won’t be replaced, being connected all the time is overrated

I wear my nice watches on my left wrist and the Apple watch on the right. I can count on one hand the number of times that someone has commented on it. My response is the one on the left is for the time and my enjoyment, the one on the right is for alerts. To be honest I couldn't give 2 sh!ts what people think, it works for me.

The key for usability and not being bombarded with useless constant alerts is setting it up to only receive the alerts that are important to you. My watch will alert me for contacts (email/text) from VIP's that I've setup, namely family and certain contacts for work, home security camera alerts, irregular heart rate (only had a couple so far) as well as calendar reminders. I personally find it extremely useful

I wear both - my normal watch and my Apple Watch. Use the Apple Watch to track my heart rate and sleep patterns.

My work gave me a 5 series about a month ago. I tried it for a week to see what the hype was all about. Decided it wasn’t for me so my 11 year old son asked if he could wear it and he absolutely loves it. Now when I need to put something on the shopping list, instead of Alexa I just tell my son.

Rolex on my left wrist, Apple watch on my right for my fitness, heart rate dailys etc

My work always brings me to not so great areas of town so whenever I work I wear the Apple Watch. Rolex and omega on days off. AW is also great for checking out sports scores and text messages when you don’t want to pull out your phone

I wear my 14060M on a NATO workdays but if I am going out on site or where my iPhone would be a pain to carry I wear my cellular iWatch.
Works for me.

I don’t like smart watches. However, in your case, happy wife, happy life. I don’t know what I would do if I were you. I’ll probably find a way to return it for something I’ll get use out of. Maybe I’ll try to convince my wife to get me a watch I’ll wear. IE: Sarb033, or something in that price point, or style. I don’t want a watch to sit in my draw, and not part of my rotation.

i do have a Garmin Fenix 3hr, I only use it for gym activities or running tracking. If I go to wilderness and need track my way I use my Garmin however I can use my Rolex too. I don't think it can hold up to the abuse of wilderness tough.

Despite her 2 Rolexes. My wife is obsessed with her Apple watch and beholden to its exercise app. She even tracks our Huskies sleep and exercise. I am not into to technology exercise tracking devises. Gave up that a few years ago and feel much better.

For the OP: try it for 30 days as your sole wristwear. See what you like/dislike and go from there. If she ever bought you a gift that didn’t work out in the past, then handle this the same way if AW isn’t your cup of tea.

Not surprised by some opinions - and understandable as it’s a Rolex (and other mechanical) watch forum. I have AW and no trouble leaving the Rolex alone some days.

But for those who think they’re evil - I think AW is a good thing in disguise - like a Polymorphic Computer Virus.

If the GenZ cohort adopts them (+ their Gen.α offspring), then the demand for Rolex/PP/AP, etc will drop significantly. So your waitlists at ADs may also drop.

The manufacturers also realize this and are likely avoiding sharp rises in production that could be financially crippling 10 years hence.

I have seen people wearing one in each hand.. Rolex and an AW. It’s becoming a trend to hear days and it doesn’t look weird anymore.

I use Sony Wena smart bracelet on my Rolex to receive notifications (only available in UK and Japan at the moment). It tracks steps and sleep too. 1 charge can last 3-5 days.

Very limited feature but can stay connected.

Question: I’m probably being paranoid, but don’t these AW have cellular and Bluetooth? I don’t worry about me since I have less than half of my life expectancy left. But with my kids, with 60-70+ years of life expectancy left, I would worry about cumulative radiation with a device in the same exact spot 24/7.

Crazyyy that I wear my Apple Watch 70% of the time now. I’m on a computer for work and the Apple Watch basically feels like air on my wrist. At the gym, lounging in the house, hanging out a friends houses, it is my go to.

Granted you get none of the emotional satisfaction that you get from a mechanical watch, it does serve its purpose very very well.

I have 4 rolexes (2 breitlings) and an Apple Watch. I find I wear the Apple Watch at work (hospital setting) as wearing a 12k watch around people who bust their ass for 50k a year can lead to some resentment. I also wear the Apple Watch to workout sometimes. You’ll find it’s a nice alternative to wear when you want something functional that you can really bang around as like most tech it is outdated soon after you buy it
