Pm ruined my steel pieces

Sorry, for me sport watches are as, dress watches in PM. For me the attraction of sport watches that are PM is for the different dial colors not so much the metal. As someone who wears their watches doing anything and everything believe me the added weight slapping around the wrist playing soccer or basketball becomes very uncomfortable.

My only PM is on OF, so maybe it's different since I don't have the heft of a full PM bracelet, but I love my SS and my lone PM equally.

I never had much interest in PM until a year ago, and now I have 4 PM Rolexes and absolutely prefer them to SS. I don't feel comfortable wearing the PM pieces to work around my employees, so I'm actually considering a white gold DD at some point. Never thought I'd see the day where I flipped from SS like this.

I thought the same after getting my WG DD40. That changed when the SD43 came out as I loved the size (8+" wrist) and it has a nice heft to it. With that said, if Rolex puts out a WG SD43, I'll get it. Not sure if the SS SD43 would get much wear after that...

I have had the opposite experiences. There is not a Rolex sport model that I do not prefer in steel.

I think once you get used to the weight it sells you. 220 grams vs a mere 130 grams for an SS just makes all the difference.

Only SS I will slip on is the Audemars. I have 3 SS with full stickers that I've never worn (GMT LN, Hulk, Batman Oyster), and I can't find myself ever wearing them.

This sounds to me like the equivalent of saying I used to have a Honda Civic, now I have a Bentley and I am losing interest in Honda's. So, yes if I can afford a PM piece, I would likely lose interest in SS pieces.

The other day had a conversation with a Non-Wis ally who was looking to obtain a Rolex.

He was clueless about the different models..etc.

I scaled it back and asked him the simplest of questions

Do you want a gold Rolex or a steel Rolex?

The reply?

Steel Rolex? Why would anyone want that? I thought they only came in gold.

Most people I know think a gold Rolex costs £8K and the SS maybe £2K or 3, they are astounded at the real figures being triple that.

Due to some travelling I just put everything in a safe and had to pick a single nice watch to live with for a month - I went with WG Daytona. It was a three way race with a beloved, battle-scarred explorer and a perfectly balanced, super comfortable subC, but with a garmin for running and any rough days, I just couldn’t resist the subtle, brilliant shine and reassuring heft of the white gold. Lack of ceramic bezel also makes it feel even more understated.

Oh man. Same here except it was the first purchase of a Patek, Aquanaut, that subdued my interest in Rolex SS. Still love them but don’t wear them nearly as much.

I only have a 14K YG OP Date on a strap and a TT DateJust Turn-O-Graph. The other five are SS.

The TOG is relatively new and is still in honeymoon mode, but the OP Date has been around awhile and it has just been in rotation like the rest.

I doubt that will change with the TOG, which by the way, I will be putting back in the safe deposit box today, while I cycle through some other watches for awhile.

Maybe if these were total PM, including bracelets, I might feel differently, but I rather doubt it.

I enjoy wearing my larger and heavier pieces, but I have to say that it's always a delight to switch to a lighter piece after a time wearing the heavier ones.

Don't own any PM Rolex since I just got into Rolex this year. I'll stick with what my budget allows me to and love my two SS Rolex. If I did want to go PM in the future I think I prefer the white gold instead of yellow. YG calls attention and WG looks like SS to many.

I have a SS DJ, TT DJ (rose gold), and YG DD. To be honest, I appreciate all of them, but wear the TT most often. It also happens to be my newest Rolex, so that may be part of the reason it is worn most often. The others I bought close to 20 years ago, versus only 3-4 years ago for my TT DateJust.

My first was a SD (no cyclops, flew way under the radar). My second a BLNR (brushed the bracelet, I didn’t like the bling of PCLs). My third a RG DD. When I received the DD, I only wore it occasionally on the weekends. After a year or so, I started wearing it more frequently, and then eventually daily. I love the heft, classic day date looks, comfort of the President bracelet, etc.

Like many have noted here, there is a “draw” towards the PM. I’m not a blingy guy, my style is pretty conservative. The older I get I’m just more comfortable in my own skin and not really worrying what others think, etc.

Everyone’s different. I go back and forth with the BLNR when I want a more casual look. I gave the SD (16600) to my son to wear for a while, but over the past few days found myself wanting to wear that one.



After a Daytona, the only other pieces I’d really want to add would be a WG or Platinum DD.

Strangely enough, since I bought my YG Sub, I haven’t looked at anything but other PM Rolex, particularly Day Dates. Would be nice to pair this bad boy up with a Day Date :)



As someone else mentioned, it’s nice not to give a rats ass about SS pricing and what its doing. Managed to get my PM for decent discount and no taxes BNIB. No plans to move it for the next “cool” SS piece. Just feels like being back in the old days in this hobby.

PM is a special feeling, but I love all the SS sports references, too! I’ll always have a balance. I won’t go exclusively to PM. Too much cool factor in the SS, such as 1675, 5512, and other wonderful vintage pieces that come and go from my collection. The 16610LV is a favorite of mine, too.
