Not impossible to find, but more scarce. I can imagine for such a high ticket item if the buyer is genuine they don’t want to say no to upside a potential large customer, but at the same time they may legitimately have a list 1-2 deep before you.

I saw one siting months in a case in SF and also Utah late last year.

It took me 3 months to find mine. It was not at my AD but another local one in the city who happened to get one in. I started looking elsewhere because my SA said she had no idea when they would get another... turns out I picked up mine and 10 days later she called to say she had one lol. Up here in Toronto they are in high demand and there is a waiting list. You should have no trouble getting one somewhere in the States. Chrono has a pile of them. That one in Vancouver is overpriced and likely a few years old and out of warranty. For 89k CAD you should be able to get new somewhere. How much are they now? I haven’t been able to confirm the price increase on the Platona’s I’ve heard 10%?

Price increase was super small, I think like 300 USD. No huge spike like the gold ones.

Can only imagine what the part cost for rhodium must be like for something like the AP dial!

2 year wait for Platinum Daytona?

Platinum DD40 are in the case. Never see a Platona.

Not sure what kind of game you AD is playing. Maybe he is trying to show you how hard they are to get so you just agree to pay MSRP. Although, if he does that he risks losing the sale. I would tell him that you have seen the watch in other AD cases and that friends have had ADs acquire it in a couple months. See how he responds. And I wouldn't pay MSRP.

Yeah, maybe ADs don’t receive them frequently, but when they do they tend to sit and sit and sit from what I’ve seen.

Two years.. No Way..I say go to another AD or two if needed and offer to pay in full up front to recieve the best discount then order exactly the one you want. Tax free out of state is another good idea. I did that for an allocated DJ41 last year and got 15.5% off, no tax (or tax incl) It came in 4 weeks. I know SS DJ41s are tougher to deal on today but your talking a lot of change for a Platty. I know for a fact my AD would take care of me big time on a WG DD40.

It’s an interesting piece. May be my fave Rolex ever, up there with my GMT LN. The release timing and disappointment (high cost, not ss) kind of tarnished its reputation for a while. All I know is that when Rolex finally discontinues this one, people are going to lose their everloving minds.
