Looking into moving my 114060 for a Blue SMP. The Sub was my grail. I got it about a year ago. After wearing daily I have found that it is very plain. I appreciate the brand and history but I like a little more style or pop with my watches. I think the blue SMP accomplishes that. At half the price, a date, see through case back, better movement, I think it makes sense.

Anyone done the same trade?

I had a GMT LN for about a year. It wasn’t my grail watch, but it was my favorite complication by one of my favorite watch companies. Fantastic watch, not a single negative thing I can say about it, but like you, I found myself a bit bored with it and started wearing it less and less after the one year mark.

Sold it and picked up an Aqua Terra to fill my sports watch void. I had never owned an Omega, but I’ve heard they make a hell of a watch. Added bonus that it cost about 1/3 the price of my LN.

However, I went into this knowing the Aqua Terra would be temporary. Maybe I’ll have it six months, maybe a year, we’ll see. Waiting on GO Sea Q’s to start hitting the used/grey market in greater quantities and then will probably trade the Omega towards a black dial model.

FWIW, the Aqua Terra definitely doesn’t feel as robust as my GMT. The bracelet for example is more on par with my older 5-digit Exp II. I can’t speak much to movement quality, both are great I assume. The Omega may be a hair more accurate, but we’re talking a difference of maybe one second per day. Same with the finish. The brushed surfaces seemed to have more grain to them on the Rolex (in a good way) and the polished surfaces seemed to shine brighter. Maybe it was my imagination though. Long winded way of making the following point - Omega seems to make a hell of a watch, but IMO there’s a reason it’s priced a bit lower than a comparable Rolex.

I’ve never owned an SMP so I can’t speak to it compared to a Sub, but I thought it would be worth mentioning the above.

The SMP is a great watch but I wouldn't trade the Sub to get one. I'd look to save and add a SMP, prices are likely to be attractive in the coming months..

If you can swing it - I would get the Omega first and own both for a time. Then you’ll know and can move the sub if you truly don’t still love it.

I would keep the sub and add another watch with colour. The blue AT is very very nice and can be had for a steal.

I’m probably staying the obvious but if you go pre-owned Omega will likely be at a bigger discount compared to Rolex. I like the idea of keeping both at least initially. Good luck with the choice!

Listen, your not crazy and the case can be made the omega is the better watch. It’s at least as accurate, far more antimagnetic which is really a big deal (I get my sub magnetized at least twice each year) and has the same dive capabilities as the sub. The color and dial are also interesting. I think there the sub gets points is versatility (which is key in smaller collections). Once people get past the emotional part that the sub is an icon, and it is, there has to be something else that draws you to the watch.

I own a Sub, a Seamaster and an Aqua Terra, as well as other Rolexes and Omegas.

I would not sell my Sub. It’s a classic and ,recently, they are difficult to replace.

I do like my Omegas and I do think that they are playing in the same league as Rolex with lower prices and greater availability. I have owned both brands for about ten years, so I have familiarity.

Subjective questions like these can really only be answered by you and you alone; however, it is nice to see what other's think. I had a datejust that I let go and expanded my collection a bit. I found myself wearing a Breitling Chronomat Longitude quite a bit that I really enjoyed for years. Eventually I got bored and traded it. I have since really only worn Apple watches, and occasionally pull a piece from my safe. Presently I do not own any Rolexes, but did add a new Black Wave SMP that is due to arrive this Friday.

If my opinion matters I'd keep your Sub and add an SMP or AT. Prices right now are really good.

I've never sold a watch to buy another watch, preferring to just save until I can afford the next one. I agree with the others that you should keep the Rolex. Having the icon already in your possession will allow you to enjoy the others more. I just got the SMP and really like it, but I wouldn't sell the Rolex to get it.

I have the 114060, the blue two tone SMPc, and a white SMPc. I love them all, but honestly if I had to pick just one to have, it'd be the sub. It goes with everything, from the beach to the boardroom, and is just classic. There's a reason why it hasn't changed much since its inception.
I second the idea that if you can swing it, get both for awhile, wait until the honeymoon phase is over, and then make a decision. Along those lines, now is probably a great time to buy a watch, but given the climate of all that's going on in the world, probably the worst time to sell a watch.
A few parting thoughts, again, just my opinion: the sub is a better one watch than the blue smpc. It goes with more, and the bracelet comfort is not even close. Don't get me wrong, the seamaster bracelet is fine to wear, but it's bulky, doesn't taper, and can't hold a candle to the oyster bracelet. It's adjustment mechanism is nice, possibly better than glidelock, but the sub bracelet wins hands down.
Just curious - have you tried on the SMP in person? If not, don't make a decision based on internet photos. Go see it in the metal before you make a decision.

Thank you for the input. Yes, I have tried on a few different SMPs. Loved them in person. I think the sub is very nice and i understand the quality of the brand. I have just got board looking at the sub. Kind of plain, and I get it, that’s the idea, but I mainly got it just because it was a Rolex. I just can’t help but enjoy the SMP more. It’s more fun to me and I feel suits my personality better. I rarely dress formal. More casual. And Everyone I am friends with has Rolex’s. I kind of like going against the grain I guess. Good things to think about though!

It’s not crazy to buy what you like, especially if it suits your personality better. Besides, I would argue that the blue SMP is approaching icon status as well, although nowhere near that of the Sub.

Life is too short, buy what you love and what suits you better personally.

I would consider going with a black SMP, especially if it is going to be your daily watch. I had both and honestly, the new wave dial SMP in black is killer. Do me, and to others I have talked to, the black is just more dynamic. Maybe the contrast with the white on the bezel is more pronounced? I honestly don't think you will have the same "bland" realization you did with the sub later. Either way, you will love a SMP.

Sounds like you have put more thought into this than how I initially took your first post. I totally get the personality thing, and if you're going to own a seamaster, the blue one is the icon. I'd get both the rubber strap and the bracelet, too!

I love the AT. Really do. A great watch at a fair price. I like to more compare it to the DJ and to me the AT is a nicer watch at much less money. The one thing to remember when comparing the AT to other divers is that it has no timing bezel.

That's an OEM strap. You can either buy it that way, or get the bracelet/order the strap and deployment separate.

That is the Omega rubber deployment strap. You can get the watch on steel bracelet or rubber. I have the bracelet, and love it. However, I will be picking up the navy blue rubber for mine to wear some this summer.

I paid just at $3300 for mine on grey market, brand new and never worn, with stickers, etc. Here is the one I have, in 41mm.
