Interesting. And here I thought Amazon specifically said all their spare money was being put towards COVID.... guess the details are all in the accounting.

Once again tech stocks are defying the rest of the market. Another day passes, another day where share prices are just a bit too high for my liking in the tech space, but then again, if it continues to rally maybe I’ll wish I just pulled the trigger now.

Good one - I should have said I hadn't made any attempt to verify that story nor was I acting on it.

What are people's views of this market now? Two weeks ago some people were convinced that a second bottom was on the way because the upsurge was pure FOMO but the longer this rally goes on..... does a second crash seem more unlikely? Given the uniqueness of this event could the nature of this market response to it be equally unprecedented?

My view remains unchanged, trading range 2650 - 2950, 2850 is close to fair value, IMHO

Things are bad and have been bad, business is reopening, everything else is a wait and see. Yes there is always the possibility of a retest or even lower. I tend to think that in 12-18 months we will be higher and that is how I am positioning and holding assets.

I agree. The initial fall was very severe and there is a chance that it caught up all the potential market fears associated with this crisis. Optimism and desire to get people back spending again seems high and lots of the unemployment could be very temporary rather than structural.
Lots of emphasis on "could be".

Futures up slightly as more re-openings occur, much of any rebound might be priced in. Buy the rumor, sell the news. I am now thinking that I want to get more defensive as things appear to get better. I will be watching the markets for continuing signs of a near term top.

It's not the rules that are a concern, but the way people are reacting to the openings; namely, not social distancing (just take a look at the beaches these days).

I completely agree and if we get to 3,000 on the S&P I will take more defensive measures and move to cash for a higher percentage of my portfolio

Fade at the open, not surprising, this market feels tired after earnings.

With little new news I am expecting range bound trading with the possible whipsaw of any new news.

My shopping list is thin at the moment as most things have moved away from me so I will be patient, collect my dividends and wait

There may be a second wave but I predict we ain't closing again given the death rate % (true mortality rate). Scale up ventilators and bed space and keep social distancing with masks.

I would not chase this and I likely would not have bought it far lower. This is all speculation IMHO

Decided to wait and watch.

Thanks for the measured voice. For a moment I was fully in to chase. It’s on my watch list though. I think alternative energy vehicles and commuting is the future. Just want to see some substance here before committing.

Weren't we all - I bought during pre-market as well.

Either way, regardless of when stocks were purchased today, they will prove to be a good deal a year from now.
