Definitely an interesting day. I was expecting more downside, at least near term. Anyone else interpret the move today as somewhat bullish? It seems that this support around 2790 wants to hold.

I'm not sure I can ascribe a trend to what transpired the past 3 days. Confusion mostly. Tech overvalue has come down, but not enough IMO. Financials gained, but why (and why haven't they come up previously?)? All I know is at 10:00am today, the entirety of the market almost simultaneously said nope, no lower today without any news to cause that. That's unsettling.

The Algorithm Bots trade on technicals of past and hypothetical future performance against relative industry values, move a couple stocks in either direction and move the group. There is very little regard for macro issues. Not to forget all the corporate debt being bought up in the bond etf markets. So for now a floor until more human interactions resume and less programmed trading occurs. My bet is January until the macro picture emerges.

I agree. A strange few days of trade for sure. There were a few names that were trading at prices that were terribly tempting this morning, but I felt that since we had broken key support, we might head towards 2650 short term, so I decided to wait to deploy any capital. I almost posted earlier today that I think we’re heading for more selling, which the rest of market participants would be prudent to read as a buy signal as I’m usual 100% wrong when it comes to market timing. One thing I will say is that market sentiment seems to be incredibly bearish. Maybe for good reason, but we have an unprecedented amount of stimulus which may prevent the market from seeing a retest of the March lows which many are calling for. I just don’t understand why one day financials are toxic (however arguably undeserved), and the next they lead a major market reversal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have no idea what is going on. I have managed my own portfolio since 1987. I will say the job losses, spending shut downs and business closures are bad for the real economy. OTOH, cases are falling, states are reopening and I do think the virus doesn’t like heat and humidity. Sally bar the door if there is a big second wave in the fall.

COVID has changed my outlook on a few stocks, namely BYND and PTON. I've previously stated (in jest...maybe) that I would never buy into BYND due to being a carnivore, but obviously it presents an intriguing investment due to meat shortages and recent deals, such as with Starbucks.
My question is whether the COVID superstars like BYND, PTON, TWLO, etc. will be affected as much as other stocks, should there be a selloff? Will they be thrown to the wolves like everything else, or will they continue to rise as they have throughout this entire ordeal?

Not sure I can help there, but a question I’ve been asking myself is will those companies that are thriving so well during the Covid economy continue to do so when we do return to a semblance of normalcy? Perhaps some will, but others may lose some momentum. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do I plan on holding onto PTON for longer than a year or so? Probably not, unless it shows that it has the capacity to continue with the growth shown over the last few weeks. It's not a fire and forget stock like a DIS or FB, but I'm an active investor and can pull the plug when needed.

A lot of data today, futures slightly down, I feel like the market is as confused as I am. Range bound trading, oil up, yields down, business reopening in places, unemployment sky high.
I am sitting and watching but will sell if needed and have kept my limits tight. I am not a buyer here as the value side has run too high for me. https://www.thestreet.com/markets/5-...-friday-051520 Some PTON comments here https://www.thestreet.com/investing/...-rcw-thestreet

Long read for the fundamentalists and everyone else on why you should want the stock market to go down. I'm simply looking for good entry points.

Selling down to more reasonable valuations, yes. Crashing down in a panic, NO. Trade tensions today coupled with numbers that were already known to be bad have the futures really moving down. Support/value is ~2650 and I would not be unhappy to get back there for the longer term picture. Current values are not sustainable IMHO

Oil and Banks have been in the toilet so of course been buying those: BP, RDS.B and COP for oil and BAC and C for banks.
Also looked into cruise lines and found RCL to be the best out of the "big 3" so bought into that. My outlook is 5-10 years from now so not concerned with the day-to-day. If they go down from here it just means its a sale and who can pass up a sale?

Sorrento claims they have a cure....what effect will this have on the market today? Obviously a vaccine would be nicer.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Will be interesting to see if this influences the markets. In the meantime, I'll remain hopeful that for the sake of the world economy, and all of the people dying, that maybe they're actually onto something. |

Based on a comment on this thread a while back, and without any research at all, I took a total punt on Aurora Cannabis at 6.54. Pretty pleased about that today!
