Speedmaster's Chrono Minute Dial

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

When using my Speedmaster's (Moonwatch) chronograph, I notice that the minute dial records an elapsed minute about 1-2 seconds early, meaning, the minute dial moves at 58-59 seconds.

Has anyone's Speedmaster done the same? I got this piece last year, so still have warranty left to fix it.

Not exactly that but my minute hand didn’t really have a noticeable deadbeat action at all. It would advance gradually like a normal minute hand. After a service (only 2.5 years old!) it came back with a perfect deadbeat. Advanced one minute on 60s.

Thanks for the reply. These movement have very interesting behaviors. I searched about a bit more and found similar threads on other forums. Looks like a known problem that gets resolved during a warranty service.

my moonwatch minute counter also moves exactly when the seconds hand make the full 60 second turn

Interesting. I'll need to call my Omega Boutique to see what can be done.

Did you get your speedmasters fixed to comply with the movement's spec?

Omega’s tolerances on the 1861 actually prefer the minute counter to jump slightly before the seconds reach 60. This is to prevent the minute counter hand wobbling the instant you engage the chronograph.

A watchmaker can ‘close the gap’ but the target isn’t for it to be dead on 60. If yours jumps between 58-59 seconds it isn’t faulty.
