Sub 126613LB and YM 126622 Blue Dials Side By Side

There was a question a little while back about whether or not the blue of the TT Sub was the same as the blue dial YM.

I was messing with my camera today and grabbed this shot which shows they are different with the YM being the darker of the two...

I knew that they are not the same blue but both of them look gorgeous.

Seeing them in that picture it's amazing how similar in size they appear and yet they wear so differently in reality.

You're right. Perhaps these days people can only work from a pictures on the Rolex website/web, gone are the days of side by side comparisons in an AD!

It’s surprisingly tricky to photograph such shiny and reflective items. I have more reverence for some of the amazing pictures on here now!

The sunburst effect of these dials is mesmerizing. I love how the shades change under varying light conditions. Thanks for posting!

Very different blue indeed. Rolex themselves give them a different name, royal blue for the Bluesy and bright blue for the YM.

Having seen both IRL and tried them on at the AD, I must admit I kind of liked the YM dial but absolutely loved the Bluesy dial. I personally found the former a little bit dull in low lighting condition and the latter richer and deeper.

Also, the bright blue in the YM and the new OP41 equally looks off to me under a certain angle when a direct light hits the dial. I didn't observe that reflection phenomenon with the Bluesy. That glimpse of "weird washed out denim" blue colour as I call it is not omnipresent but once I noticed it I could not unsee it when tilting the watch. That's the very nature of ever-changing sunburst dials I suppose. It's just that the Bluesy sunburst appears better resolved to me, as in it won't go "weird" under a certain angle. Have a look at the first 3 pictures below and tell me what you guys think.

The stock dial pictures from Rolex don't really render what they can look like IRL, but I'm also attaching these for comparison.

All of this is obviously very subjective. Some people will clearly prefer the YM and OP41 blue colour over the Bluesy.

How did you manage both watches to show exactly the same time, up to a fraction of a second?

Thanks for some interesting background. To be honest if I saw the two dials outside of the watch cases I’d be picking the YM blue. But that said in day to day life the Sub dial has much more life and over all it would be the one I’d pick.

I don’t think the Sub blue dial would work well with the finish of the platinum bezel on the YM somehow...

Good spot! ! Just hacked both second hands at 12 then clicked in the crowns at the same moment after I’d set the correct time. Had one watch in each hand and was listening to the UK speaking clock on my phone as the reference time

First time I saw the blue YM, it was on a random guy wrist in the streets. I immediately thought “wow it doesn’t look like I thought it would”.

Pretty disappointed to be honest. I then managed to have an AD show it to me l, and didn’t buy it. The blue has this mentioned before “dull Jean effect” which I really don’t like.

I think it is dull when compared to the blue of the Sub but it does have its own interest and beauty, the red lettering adds a splash of interest overall. It’s certainly a blue for going under the radar and I pick the YM over the Sub if I have that in mind

I agree, the more subdued blue in the YM suits its nature better, it's not as showy as the bimetal blue Sub.

They work well together although the YM can seem a little small after the Sub but that soon passes after wearing it for a while.
