Rolex insurance amount question.

When I bought my girl a ring for 5.5k they gave me an appraisal for 9k. I got the stone from a friend for a good price but I don't think it would run 9k to replace it. When I got my SeaDweller from a local AD I got an apraisal for 6,250 which was the price at the time. I saw one yesterday at another AD for 6,700 which he told me was the new list price.

Shouldn't it now get an appraisal for 6,700 since that is what it would cost for a replacement if it was ever lost/stolen?

I would, personally. I bought my SS Sub Date for 3800 5 years ago. To replace it would cost me 5800. When I shipped my watch off to the RSC, they insured it for 6k as that is about what it would cost to replace. But it's a personal choice. Insuring the watch isn't too bad.

Buy insurance with the "cost of inflation" replacement cost option.

Buy insurance with the "cost of inflation" replacement cost option. Ask your insurance rep about it; if your company has it.

Your call. I will only do mine if there's about a thousand dollar spread for insured vs. replacement cost.

How much does it cost to insure a Rolex watch and did you buy special insurance or is it under your homeowners insurance policy?

Thanks
Allan

I pay about $1800/year to insure 14 rolexes at full replacment value (each varies by cost of watch). This is under a separate rider under my homeowners.

I have mine under a separate policy, not homeowners.

Just under the homeowners. I don't know what it costs. My girl is the bookeeper.

What is covered under the insurance policy? Just if stolen from your house and fire or does it cover the situation where you lose or drop/break your watch?

Thanks
Allan

The insurance appraisal will be done for current replacement value, which is why appraisals should be reconsidered and redone every 5 years or so.
