Good morning F1 fans, looks to be a good race ahead.

I just wish rain was in the forecast for the later part of the race to separate the true talent.

Yeah - they gambled and lost the race in the office. When I saw the list of replaced parts per car in parc firmè I wondered…

Mercedes dropped the ball on Lewis’s strategy for this race. Overcut seems to work much better than the undercut at Monaco so not sure why Mercedes tried that here.

We finally have the 2nd non-Merc driver leading the championship for the entire Hybrid era.

100% agree, cost him two places. Glad to see the team went for fastest lap to salvage back a point.

Poor Charles... perhaps the greatest gentleman on the grid and has never finished his home GP in 5 attempts.... but the damage was by his own hand. I suppose the Mercedes engineer who was caught on radio on Saturday saying that he "conveniently" crashed into the armco is eating his words about now.

Yet again, Bottas with all the freaky bad luck! It's always Bottas'.... Lewis on the other hand has finished 86 of the last 87 GPs he's entered... luckiest driver in the history of F1.

Speaking of Lewis, is there a bigger front runner than him? You would think a 7 time world champion would be able to be more graceful and absorb an off weekend for both him and the team. I've never heard so much whining in my life!@

Finally, congratulations to Max Verstappen and Red Bull. What an incredible job to have a 23 year old kid put a team on his back and displace Mercedes for the first time in the turbo hybrid era. This kid is getting better and better every weekend and his ceiling is very high. I still believe the Mercedes is the best car on the grid and Monaco being so specific is not indicative of their pace -- Bacu will show that when they can stretch their legs, but at the very least, RBR is making them work for the title this year.

Hamilton’s strategy was complicated due to the nature of the track - shorter so overcuts need clear areas to make speed.

Traffic, compounded with fewer areas at Monaco where cars can go side-by-side leaves strategists making swag’s more than algo driven predictions.

I wasn’t able to pinpoint the actual error point - let’s just say they blew it.

I think I have watched a more boring race.

Nope.

It’s time they changed the format from 78 laps to a much shorter race.

30 laps with one tyre/fuel stop would have kept me awake.

I watched the replay at 30x and didn’t miss much.

What do you think?

Monaco is a terribly outdated circuit that only exists today because of its heritage and to appease the sponsors. Having the cars drive around in formation for 78 laps is not racing. And yes, Hamilton is a whiney little b**ch.

I can only think of one on track overtake and that was buy Mick on his teammate Mazespin to move up from 19th to 18th (if I remember correctly). All of the other overtakes was done through pitlane strategy. Unless it's a wet weather race, I wouldn't miss Monaco at all. Monaco doesn't even pay a race fee.

That's the only one they showed for sure. There was one at the start into the first corner too. Alfa passed someone I believe. Still, both passes barely cleared also.

It was a boring race from the spectators point of view and perhaps from some of the drivers who couldn't advance if their life depended on it. Thats Monaco, unfortunately. Only a couple of places where overtaking has been done, but not yesterday. Mercedes blew it, Red Bull didn't and kudos to the podium finishers. Bottas got screwed again. Literally and figuratively. His wheel nut was stripped by the screwgun. It was either a malfunction or misplaced/misaligned on the nut from what I read. The latter could be human error. Guess we'll hear more about that.
Glad I didn't pay to see the train.
Next.....!

Hard to tell if Friday times are accurate, but Bottas has said that the Mercedes are struggling in Baku. Times reflect that in FP1 and FP2, but again, they may be sandbagging with the eventually statement from Mercedes drivers on Saturday afternoon of "We changed set ups overnight and the car really came back to us."

Perhaps the Merc is not as strong on street circuits and can't get it's tires up to temp without the DAS system?

Speaking of street circuits? Singapore GP has officially been cancelled due to fears related to the pandemic. Rumor is COTA may get a double header, although having 2 at COTA and 1 in Mexico in a short amount of time seems unlikely.

Would love to see them return to Mugello Even though it's a MotoGP course, it proved very challenging for the driver's with the high speed corners, G loads and it was a very exciting race last yeat.

I'd rather F1 cancel the Singapore race and not replace it on the calendar this year. The initial 23 race schedule was a little much so having one less race wouldn't hurt.

I love F1, but completely agree. Multiples of the same race really doesn’t do it for me either. Kinda glad Singapore was canceled out of the bunch though, for me it’s never been an enjoyable track to watch.

Agh.... Red Bull waiting too long in Q3 to put down another good lap. I know it wasn’t intentional on Ferraris part, but it almost felt like it with as many drivers positions it sealed in that were pretty at risk with the numbers Red Bull was putting down.

I love F1 too and watch it every weekend that it comes on but too many races ends up diluting the product. The more races you add, the more races you end up with that have no outcome on the championship. I’ve always preferred between 17-20 races but F1 needs the race fees.

Ferrari really lucked out on Q today with Mercedes towing them. Looks like RB dropped the ball when they should’ve had the pace for P1.

Max was ‘purple’ in sectors one and two before the red flag.

By Leclerc’s own admission - “It was quite a sh*t lap.”

Well....that was an interesting qualifying session!! At least 1 red flag for Q1, 2 and 3. It looks like the Ferrari strength is on street circuits with low grip levels. That's pole position for Char in the last 2 race weekends! Who would have ever thought we'd say that? Happy for LEC as he truly seems to be a quiet but quick driver that has endured some bad luck.

Unfortunately the Ferrari race pace doesn't seem to be as good and the Mercedes has the definite advantage of straight line speed on this track. Even if LEC and/or VER find a way in front of the Mercedes of Hamilton at some point in the race, with 1.4 miles of straight to finish the lap, the Merc will overtake both.

Anyone see the top speed of Norris' car with the Mercedes engine? Appx. 20 kmh faster than the Red Bulls down the straights!! Speaking of Norris, he's received a 3 grid spot penalty for the red flag incident and will start 9th.

Haha. Made the Q sessions really disjointed with the multiple start and stops.

This was one of the best qualifying sessions I’ve seen. A lot of luck and good timing made it pretty fair that anyone could have a chance at pole. That corner is wreaking havoc for the drivers, just about anyone who’s been pushing has got the corner wrong at least once. Will make for interesting results.
Hopefully Max is patient during the first lap and tries to get by Ham and Leclerc when the track opens up. If he charges in like the old Crashtappen, there will be carnage.
