New or preowned Rolex ?
Hi all,
What does everyone think abbout buying new versus preowned watches. Is it better to buy new from an AD or pick up an almost new preowned for less cost. Advanntages and disadvantages ?? |

I have only one new AD purchased Rolex. The other 3 are pre-loved.
I have absolutely no issues purchasing preowned Rolexes. Just know your seller well!! And did I say to know your seller WELL!!!?? I will also add that two of the three I purchased here on the TRF Sales Forum!

As Richard said, buy the seller first. My second watch was purchased NIB (new in box), but it was previously owned. I managed to save a significant amount of money and was very pleased with the watch.

Buy pre owned if you are money conscious or looking for vintage and buy from an AD if you want the peace of mind and your name on the warranty card. You do have peace of mind buying from TRF members and I don’t think you would use the warranty.

what a classic phrase....
![]() it is "good" to have the experience of buying new at an AD and I am lucky enough to have done that but I also have purchased second hand and yes you can certainly save some money and end up with a great watch. |

You left out another option: Brand new from a Grey Market dealer. Kind of a compromise between your first two choices.

They obtain brand new watches from ADs and sell them at discount. You usually don't get the warrantee card so you can't get warrantee service from Rolex. Some of them have their own in-house warrantees.
Two grey market dealers mentioned a lot around here are www.swissluxury.com and alanfurman.com. No personal experience with grey market myself (yet). Have only bought from ADs.

If I felt comfortable enough in my ability to spot a fake I'd go pre-owned. Since I don't...It's new from an AD for me.

I think you can find really good buys on pre-owned. Of course, Rolex has changed the watch bracelets now, which makes a different to me as a prospective first time buyer.

I bought pre-owned with a guaranteed return policy if I was not satisfied. However, as Reagan said, "Trust, but verify". I had my watch authenticated at an AD with everything turning out satisfactory. I saved a bunch and was very happy with my transaction and watch.

Actually going with a reputable gray dealer may be a good choice, especially with getting a BNIB Rolex with the latest updates and upgrades.

That was me, precisely! Nowadays, I would probably go pre-owned on several models, if the seller was reputable and there was a good service history documented.
