5235g Thoughts

Hi,

I would love to add a 5235g to the collection and was hoping to hear from past/current owners about their likes and dislikes. Also, how have you found the fit to be on wrist (specifically those with 7” wrists)?

This would be my first annual calendar to the collection so why not pair it with an incredible regulator as well.

I've owned mine for over 7 years. There is really no watch like it in the Patek collection. Patek's first regulator watch.

You may also want to try out the 5235R and see which one you like better.

Sizing should be fine for a 7 Inch wrist, although how a watch fits a wrist is more than diameter and has to due to shape of the wrist.

I like the R the most, I actually don't like the other variant at all - The dark grey Dial against the warmth of the rose gold is stunning. It is one of the most unique layout in the line up IMO.

Some say it is somewhat of a collector's item and that values will be improving - I am not sure about this.

The annual calendar setup seems a bit lazy from an execution perspective but the regulator is amazing.

Any issues with time keeping or anything in particular that required earlier servicing?

Bought mine 6 months ago and I absolutely love it. Telling time from the regulator set up is no problem, and the simplicity and coolness of the dial is stunning IMO. Looks like the price is going up - don't know if it will be a collector item though. Go for it

I think the R is one of the most attractive watches in the range! Will definitely be enquiring about this in the new year. Anyone got any ideas one wait times from boutiques?

No wait - just tell AD and they should get on next shipment or so-

In my opinion and experience 5235G is an elegant and understated watch. More so than its flashier but equally elegant R sibling. The dial has incredible details that need to be looked closely to really be appreciated. It wears very comfortably thanks to its light and fairly thin case and sharply angled lugs. The combination of brushed and polished surfaces I find extremely attractive. The movement is exquisite, unique to this piece and a very reliable timekeeper.

Although for many collectors there was never any question about the beauty and historical importance of Patek 5235G upon its release, both for its regulator-style display, beautiful unique movement and secondarily the hacking seconds, this reference did not receive a universally warm welcome from the hard-core Patek collector community. This was not helped by a significant delay from announcement to release and some inevitable speculation.

In addition, in spite of its initially polarising reception, Patek has inspired the design of another heavyweight watch, both from a historical and horological point of view -the perpetual calendar 5236- precisely in this 5235G reference.

Highly recommended.
