I personally think the Hulk and BLNR are the modern OG hype watch. Yes the hulk started off slow, this was true for all models except Daytona. Which just means that Hulks probably have less production that most models with similar production span.

To me it's very special indeed. For what it is. Not for what the gougers think they can get for it.

I don't care if this makes me REAL or not. I just like watches and I particularly like the 116610LV. I wish it would tank. Then I can wear it without feeling self conscious and as a bonus, I'll get my hobby back.

The Rolex market is currently at insane levels. I've recently added my two Rolex grails (the only models I really wanted if I never get another Rolex), but now am content and on the sidelines. I'm probably not adding another Rolex to my collection unless their is a major correction or I can easily source a new one at an AD. For now I am content to sit on the sidelines as spectator to this madness.

Thanks for this OP. I thought I was one of the few who thought this exact same thing. After I got it in 2017 I wore it nonstop; now it sits many days in the safe.

Agree. It’s special for what it is, but not some magical unicorn…it’s just a watch, but most I think would agree at least that it’s a unique one.

I’m saying the fact it’s demand is only due to its discontinuation means it has a ceiling and no chance of overtaking the Daytona which has been the hype watch for years with difficulty sourcing. The blnr and Pepsi have been similar since their launch.

The fact in production Pepsis and Batman’s are roughly the same price as the hulk indicates it isn’t going to just double for some reason despite the investment crowds efforts.

As I always say, I bought it for the dial but sold it because of the bezel. The dial is a sensational sunburst green, but the bezel is more of a milky green which I personally found a bit unappealing after the honeymoon phase was over - and also I think clashes with the dial.

It’s a very cool watch if you like the colours though, and pretty unique too which is always fun, but it’s not for me and I think it’s a real ‘Marmite’ watch. I think the Daytona has a lot more universal appeal.

It fit well into my rotation at the time though.

An out of production hyped watch, all be it produced in large quantities, is a fixed number that will never increase. This potentially creates more demand in the long term than another mass produced hype watch which is still being churned out.

Of course it's not that simple. We don't know how many high demand Daytona models are in circulation, how many enter the market per month/quarter/year, how much longer they will be manufactured for, or how many Hulks were sold. There is also a difference in demand level, although again, we can't put a number on it.

Taking all that into consideration, it does not appear logical to say an out of production, high demand model will never be as coveted as an in production, in demand model, even in the upside down world of Rolex. Time will tell.

For me, the Pepsi was an impossible model to obtain at MSRP for three years and a relatively easy one to get at MSRP in 2021.

The one on David SW is a 2011 model. My post says "late model Hulks", which means like 2021-2018 production.

David has sold Hulks for $35,000 also.

Touché. But let’s be honest, there is no difference between a 116610 LVC from 2011 or 2021. The only difference is the date stamped on the card and the fact the newer one has some factory warranty. So if a person is stupid enough to pay the price differ for the same watch with a newer warranty card then that’s on them. As a owner of the 116610 LVC I personally think the aftermarket pricing is crazy. I picked mine up when they use to sit in the cases and an AD couldn’t move them

2018 and newer have a different font on the dial…..some say the later models are also a little darker….

I don’t view anything as perpetual production, so the discontinued distinction will end eventually comparing 116500 as well. The market knows this and it’s priced in now and makes “overtaking” nearly impossible. I suspect the opposite happens when the current Daytona is ended. Somehow it’s demand will increase despite the new one likely having even more appeal/demand.
