Oh man, you reeeeally missed the good times. Tons of availability, or wait as they sent it in a few weeks to the store. i truly do feel for the 'young' enthusiasts who missed those days. If i had to start today fresh and new....

I hear ya on that.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I will admit that the general lack of availability sometimes adds to the thrill for me though. I'm not saying I enjoy the Rolex/AP/PP sports watch level of craziness, but there is something very satisfying about discovering a brand like Czapek before the masses pile on. The strength of the secondary market also makes it easier than ever to move on from a piece that may no longer suit your style or needs.

So while, yes, I'm bummed and frustrated that I can't buy a Gronefeld Principia or an H Moser Streamliner Centre Seconds, the world of watches offers plenty of other amazing options to hold me over.

Ahh the days when Rolex was just a nice watch, when all the Subs and GMT's were sitting in the case and you bought what you liked. Crazy to think back now. In my memory the shortage hype started with the jubilee GMT.

I'm usually not a fan of California dials, but this one looks very good. Damn. I knew these would sell out in a micro-second. Isn't, wasn't the price in the $30's?

BTW, I'm not a flipper, but awhile ago (maybe 6 months ago) I thought I saw a Passage De Drake on Chrono24 selling for a slight discount to retail (this was before the glacier blue came out).

Then it suddenly jumped the like 2x that price, and then sold.

While price appreciation is a surprising plus, I would not want Czapek to become another unobtainable brand. Exclusive, yes. Batsh*t crazy, no.

I too hope the prices do not explode to silly levels. The current prices in C24 should all be taken with a grain of salt though as they appear to all be listed by the same dealer.

100000000000000000000% agree. That's my 'fear' as well.

BTW, Czapek is not done yet! There will be more....

<as i look around whistling innocently>

...but you didn't hear that from me.

The Rattrappante was a limited run from the get go, so I’m not surprised it has jumped in value. Plus the starting price is already lofty.

The 38mm Antarctique is in the throes of ramping up production.

When I mean “crazy” I mean watches that are manufactured by the hundreds of thousands each year, that show up in the secondary markets by the thousands, and yet command 2x - 3x retail price. You know what I mean.

Or like plastic watches that cost $260 retail, that are non-limited editions, that people are already selling online for $1000-$5000.

Those kind of crazy.

Is production for watches delayed across the board then? My "date" is in a week, was told before it takes a few weeks after that to arrive, that no longer the case?

Yowza. Roman numerals and Arabic on the same dial? Don't worry about me taking up a spot!

you might do a little homework on "california dial" watches.

Here's one article:

https://www.gearpatrol.com/watches/g...-dial-watches/

they're not for everyone, for sure.

I owned a PAM249 for years, super cool dial but that 47 radiomir case killed me.

Thanks for that. I had never heard of them before. OK, so it's "a thing." But I guess it still isn't my cup of tea.

About to put in my order - either through website or Mike, but the smaller 38.5mm only comes with Glacier and Salmon options (based on my research on this thread). Can someone confirm…and also anyone get the GB with dark grey rubber?

After three months of waffling, there is another surprise? Might be worth waiting for then esp. if dark blue is an option. Even if so, glacier is a dial color that I don’t have. Wonder if I can deposit now and make changes later?

For those trying to time the new Czapek announcement, Tuesday the embargo lifts.

May the odds be ever in your favor.
