When I finished law school over a decade ago, I went into my local AD and got a SS sub date....and although I had the money in my savings (multiple times of the watch), I only put like 3k down and I was to bring the rest the next day and I could get a 10 percent discount.

I regretted it because I had yet to secure a legal position and I called my AD back and she agreed to return my money. She was extremely kind and understanding.

3 years later I got a couple Rolex watches, 10 years later I purchased 6 watches from that same AD AND SAME SALES ASSOCIATE.

Usually when it’s sized with stickers removed, it’s yours!

I had a remorse with far less expensive items .. It's not about the money actually .. It's when you realize you made a poor decision for some reason ..

If you bought that Rolex online it would be much easier to get the refund. If you bought it in store and sized it I'm afraid you won't see your money back .. Maybe you'll get a store credit at best which will never bring your spent money back ..

It’s a Rolex. I would think reselling it would get you more money than returning it.

Why get MSRP from the AD when you can get 1.5x MSRP right here on TRF!

The only refund I know of is through Costco. I've not seen a Rolex there for years.

Some AD ask you to sign a paper that said no refund.

They can refund the deposit before your purchase but not after purchased.

Some models you can resell in secondary market without losing money.

10 times, but it was only to get another Rolex and always received MSRP + sales tax towards the next one. Only one I will most likely add back is the 124060. If I would sale it on the secondary market, I would hurt my relationship and not get the next one I want in a timely manner. This includes:

114060 (x2)
124060
Bluesy (x3)
Root beer
Datejust (x3) - white/black/blue sticks, fluted/jubilee

Yes for the next one, why not? It was more like a trade-in, not so much a return. 2 of them were from a different AD. I could never make a datejust work for me, no matter the dial color. The root beer was while I couldn’t wait for the BLNR, but couldn’t get into the brown, but it was really sharp at night. The bluesy was crazy doing it 3 times, but I loved it so much, but also couldn’t stand the blue dial in the sunlight. Tried to make it work. Wouldn’t have been able to do this in any other climate, so thought why not and get what I really love. The 126610LV and BLNR plus jubilee was the outcome, and no money lost.

I have bought four references that didn’t work out. I wore them all for a good chunk of time before selling them on privately. I never asked for more money than I paid for the watch.

Bet they still take Daytonas back!

To OP, yes I have many years ago. Even recently when bought ladies DJ for the holidays, they said if didn’t end up liking color can come back to exchange a week later.

Now days I don't think you would have a problem returning a Daytona or other steel sports if the AD also has a Pre-owned section :)

Most jewelry have an "all sales final" clause where the watch is actually delivered. One the warranty is filled out or now, the card is electronically registered the watch is considered sold, so it now becomes a used watch. Traditionally, most watches including Rolex lost value on the used market so it would hard for the store to just take it back. With the current market, I would think any AD would jump at the chance to essentially buy the watch back from and then they can retail it as a used watch at the premium over retail.

There is an AD chain in the southeast which has always had a 30-return policy for a full refund. I returned an Explorer 39, a few years back before the hype, the next day because it stopped running that night after a full wind. I just did not feel like with messing with the warranty to get it looked at.

I had a 50% deposit on an anniversary black GMT with the green hand. I wanted the green hand so bad but the more I stared at the watch all I could see was those big dumb numbers on the bezel, totally out of scale with the rest of the watch. So I canceled the order and simply rolled the deposit into a pre-owned 14060m they had in the case. Still have it, don’t regret it for an instant.

The only Rolexes I’ve “returned” have been traded in to the same AD I bought them from for new Rolexes.

sounds like the sale was never completed. I wouldn't actually call this a refund if you never took possession of the watch.

Yes. I'm sure they will happily refund a reasonable percentage of your MSRP for a used Rolex they can sell on.

yes back in early Jan 2020. Bought a CHNR TT from the case. Once I got it home I wasn't feeling it. Just wasn't my taste. Returned it back to AD next day. Since then I tried the TT Sub black dial and blue dial and sold both. Both short lived and sold. THEN 2022 March AD calls and says they have a rootbeer again and I buy it. Love it now. Your tastes does change.

Quite a few backpack flippers may find this thread useful when they can’t resell for more than they paid

That had been commonplace years ago, but now I believe an AD would jump at a return at full refund. Then put it in the estate case to sell for 2x MSRP.

Can’t imagine doing it now when nothing’s in the case, as for most you’re waiting a few months at least. Plenty of time to decide you don’t want it and tell the AD you changed your mind. Can’t imagine instead going in, trying it on, buying it, then going back and returning it.

Was a lot easier to understand buyers remorse when you walked in and could buy something out of the case.

Last one I bought, the salesman presented paperwork for me to sign that disallowed returns. I didn't read it verbatim, but in his words, to protect the business in the case of buyers remorse.

Bought an OP many years ago, changed my mind , and returned it the next day. It was awkward, but the AD fully refunded me.

By the time I make my purchase on items like a Rolex I have already considered it for long enough to avoid buyer’s remorse.
