Hodinkee Insurance
Has anyone had experience with Hodinkee?
I know Jewelers Mutual is popular and they payout for loss/theft/damage with zero hesitation. Does Hodinkee work the same way or do they make you jump through hoops and hurdles? I like that Hodinkee covers for the market value if the watch appreciates and they are a couple hundred bucks a year cheaper for the policy. Is it worth paying the extra for JM or is Hodinkee good to go? Thanks! |

The clincher for me was that Hodinkee did not require an official appraisal. I was able to just send in a photo of the watch, I think with serial # and current market value.

From what I remember, it's pretty pricy. Like >1% of insured value per year, isn't it?

I’ve been happy with Hodinkee’s ease of use especially for adding or removing pieces from the policy. Far simpler than JM. Also nice that they automatically cover new pieces for up to 90 days after purchase without formally adding to the policy.

Has anyone actually had a claim for loss/theft/damage that they paid out on?

For those of you with Hodinkee what value did you use? MSRP? What you paid for it? What it's currently worth?

I used MSRP at the time of purchase. There is up to 150% coverage on a single piece, but if multiple pieces are damaged/stolen then the policy has a cap at total agreed-upon value.

It depends on the watch. I currently have 10 insured and my wife’s DJs, OP are at MSRP. The Daytonas and GMTs are insured so the 150% gets it to market price if that makes sense. What’s nice is you can go onto the site and change values up or down at any point.

get a quote first, their quotes for some zip codes/locations are insane. it was like 3x more expensive than JM when i went to get a quote back in like 2019. i can only imagine it would be even higher now
