The watch is in perfect condition, like new, as if it was teleported from 1972 with a time travel.
Furthermore, at the time, these watches were mostly produced with a white dial, while the blue ones were only one-thirtieth of the production of the white ones. You can imagine how many of these have come down to us. A real rarity.

Thank you! I love it too. It is an intense blue that changes tone depending on the lighting.
See how it performs outdoors.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a redial.

Prediction - the case serial number of your watch ends 759.

Did the person/dealer who sold it to you tell you it was an original dial?

He told me it's in excellent condition, that's all. She looks fine to me.

The number ends in 759. What do I need to know?

Well you don’t really need to know anything I guess. If you’re happy with the watch as it is, then that’s great.

But if this was purchased from a dealer, they should have been open about the fact the dial had been repainted and reprinted, and that the case had been fully reconditioned. Sadly it is very far from being in “as new” condition.

However, I feel satisfied.

What's the significance of the serial number ending in 759? How did you know that?

I keep an eye on the market (and that's probably the understatement of the year).

The watch sold on Yahoo Japan Auctions on April 6th this year to someone using a proxy account. The original auction listing photos included shots of the caseback (hence how I knew the full serial number - FWIW, the case actually dates from October 1970, not 1972), along with images that clearly show the case has been completely refinished.

Given the elapsed time since that transaction and it being posted here, it's pretty clear it went through another set of hands before landing with the OP.

I don't believe for one moment that whoever bought it from Japan was not fully aware of the fact that the dial had been "redone" and the case completely refinished.

They had to have known exactly what they had, because "like new" examples of this reference sell for many multiples of what this sold for, and frankly it is disgraceful that they were not honest and open about what they subsequently sold on to a clearly unsuspecting collector, who - through no fault of his own - has been conned. Clearly from the earlier posts he believed he had a watch in "perfect", "as new" condition.

Oh. And the original auction description very clearly stated that the dial had been "redone".

No doubt the individual who sold the watch would plead innocence if confronted, but the only alternative is incompetence. I have no idea who that is, but they should be ashamed of themselves.

At the end of the day, the OP is happy with his purchase, but if I see (clearly completely innocently in this instance) falsely presented vintage Grand Seikos posted, I will call them out, because those people who lauded praise on this watch earlier in the thread deserve to know the truth, as do all of those who stumble across this thread.

The only thing the seller told me was that it was serviced, so I think he was referring to the case as well as the movement.

There should be like a weekly publication of some sorts that calls out redone coloured dials and reminds people not to get them!

But yes, it’s one thing to be happy with the watch, it’s another to be completely deceived when buying it by a seller who knew it was a redial.

I'm happy with the watch and I wasn't completely deceived as the ad said it was serviced and I didn't elaborate on that.
For what I paid for it, I feel absolutely satisfied.

No offence but this quote suggests you were indeed completely deceived.

If all these facts above were irrelevant to you in your purchase then you not have been so effusive about it in this way.

The seller didn't tell me anything, that's true, but I didn't ask him anything.
I can't know that, if I looked into it, he would tell me the truth.

I had the same thoughts - a refinished / non orig dial. Still a nice looking watch.

Edit: I have the same model.
