Serial number question re. Scrambled Numbers
Good Evening,
I have a quick question, just to serve my own paranoia. Currently, I’m looking at a Lady Datejust 279173 for my wife. I have a watch that’s being offered to me dated early 2022. Of course, it comes with a scrambled serial number. The serial number starts with an “F” and is then followed by seven numerical digits. All my other Rolexes have more letters in the serial number, not just a letter as the first character and then only numbers. I remember that there were F-serials back in the day, but I think they were only followed by six digits. I thought that Rolex would want to make sure that there’s no confusion, and that’s why they included more characters from the alphabet in the scrambled numbers. My question to you is, does anybody else have a scrambled serial that just starts with a letter and is followed by only numbers? I know it’s probably not something to worry about, but it just struck me as odd. My first reaction was, look at that, an F-serial from 2022. Thanks for your input!

My newly bought YM40’s serial number starts with letter V followed by 7 digits.

Great info - thank you.
So yours is not a 2001 and mine will not be a 2005. :) Does anybody have an idea what I should pay for it? Full set with original invoice, 2/2022, cards, boxes, all links. Given that condition is about 9/10, I was thinking about offering $7,000. Sounds right?

I have a Lady Datejust that was manufactured in 2021. The reference number is 279171-0001. Everose Rolesor, jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, sundust stick dial. The serial number is a total of 8 characters, with the first character being a letter. Of the remaining 7 characters, 6 are numbers and 1 is a letter. The price was $9,850 before tax.
The dials on Lady Datejusts manufactured starting in 2021 have the Rolex coronet before the word "Swiss" and after the word "Made" at the bottom of the dial. |

Thank you so much, your description matches exactly what I’m looking at.
Given that the one I’m looking at is used, I’d be wanting to spend about 7K on it. It would be a private transaction without sales tax, fortunately. Thank you again and I’ll let you know what comes of it!

It's random, so letters could be randomly selected :)
