London and LHR ADs

Hello TRF
Need your collective wisdom. I am traveling to London on business and will visit ADs. I am looking to ad a DJ 41 fluted in jubilee or SS GMT VTNR to my collection.

1) Who are the must visit ADs in Central London?
2) Anyone have luck at the LHR T2 AD?

Thank you.

Unfortunately unless things have really changed very recently it’s extremely unlikely you’ll find anything SS available for sale. UK is dominated by Watches of Switzerland boutiques of which there are lots, with the biggest on Regent Street. Worth a visit, especially if you’re interested in other brands. If that is the case then Old Bond Street and Harrods are also worth wandering around

Good luck, you have more chance of the queen being resurrected than being offered something decent at LHR. The airports also have register of interests and only sell to VIP clients.

DJ in two-tone is possible? But steel is very tricky.
Issue with London is that ADs are big chains like watches of Switzerland and Bucherer, they seem to be very hard to get anything from as a new customer. I like to try with smaller groups or independent ADs and they have given me the best so far.

The exercise will do you good. Past that, you might score a DJ, it has been known. Good condition used DJs should be in good supply at less than insane prices.

LHR T2 is hit and miss. I know people who have been lucky with DJ and OP references so no harm trying your luck.

Re central, I would stick to Harrods, followed by Bucherer across the road. Then walk to St James Sq for a drink once you’re done!

If you go into Watches of Switzerland then obviously you won’t be offered anything.

However 3 weeks ago I was offered a root beer GMT on a walk in at Bucherer in Westfield Shepards Bush and they also had steel 41mm datejusts on oysters

Honestly, the terminal AD's are almost pointless.

Who knows a DJ might be possible somewhere, but that’s about it.

Was in T5 at Heathrow the other day and thought I’d have a butchers in the Rolex shop. The SA was trying to flog some DJ with a very dull looking dial to the prospective buyer, telling him how rare it was for them to have one and he really should take the opportunity.

He didn’t want to know!

Not much to see or do at St James’s

Unless your after some new links fitted or your watch to be serviced or some other repair.

Walk in GMT II VTNR you say?

Scoring a Datejust is far more realistic here in the UK

LHR T2 Rolex is not much to write home about. You might get lucky on a DJ.

As others have said WoS dominates London so don’t build your hopes up too much unless you have spent considerable money with them in the past

Err, Chequers, Red Lion & Three crowns, followed by 45 Jermyn St, Maisons or Quags. Or high tea at Fortnums.

I picked up an Exp 2 and a Sub date in less than 6 months between them from my Heathrow AD.

Chance purchases or a WhatsApp from the rep inviting you in?

I thought the original quote was about Rolex HQ in St James’s………..not the surrounding area.

The store on New Bond Street is the worst AD I have ever visited. There is a nice one in Covang Garden though.

New Bond Street has too many tourists and footballers / high rollers purchase from there too so it's hard to get anything. That is under WoS.

Covent Garden is under Bucherer. Nice bunch of guys but unless you're willing to shelf out 30k++ for some diamond datejust or willing to bundle with jewellery / other brands, it won't be easy.

It was a call. I waited for both, but built a good relationship as I see them often.

If you are going to Regent Street, might as well head to Burlington arcade for some window shopping. Loads of watch shops there but all grey dealers but you might see some nice pieces on display.

I have had luck at the Sydney airport. Last year, I piicked up my Air King there after a 2-week waiting period. They had one instock, but I could not purchase because it was on hold for another customer. After the other customer flaked, the watch was mine !

They are really nice in that AD.
