Mondani book: Rolex Submariner Story

Does anyone own the book "Rolex Submariner Story" by Guido Mondani? I've been thinking about taking the plunge, but at close to $600 shipped to me it has to be really good.

All of his books are the best. Sometimes I see them for sale in the FS section. $600.00 is allot for a book. If you have a nice vintage submariner collection or are going to start 1 this may be for you.
I found a review of it here.http://www.rolexreferencepage.com/bo...ws/Submariner/

You will find better stories on the internet .... that's all he has .. a collection of knowledge from the internet .... I doubt there is anything in tat book that you can't get from the web .... but if you get it from the web, it would be a jumbled stack of papers ... a book looks more organized, neat and clean ...
But $600 ??? No book is worth that much, especially in today's digital age...

Thanks guys. Thanks Nikos for the link.

I was hoping that the expensive price would be reflective of the information involved, but it seems it's more because of the limited production nature of this publication.

Still undecided though. It does look nice.

Just like no watch is worth $10K in this day and age when everyone has a cell phone in their pocket that tells the time?

I have it. It's a pretty good book, but stops at around 1990. It's also not as detailed as the Mondani books, or so I've heard since I haven't actually seen one.

Well, I just got the book. I think it's fantastic. Huge, close-up pics of the entire range of submariner and sea dweller up through 2009, and detailed descriptions of each. I hesitated on buying it because of the Rolex-like price, but I clicked "buy now" after a couple of glasses of wine one night, and I have no regrets.

Wanted to mention that it contradicts some information from other seemingly authoritative sources online. For instance, so far I have found disagreement on the various meters-first red sub dials (Mark I, Mark II, etc.) relative to the "Everything Red Subs Reference" post that is a sticky in the Vintage Forum. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at this disagreement given that so much of the publicly available information on older Rolexes is based on anecdotal evidence complied by collectors over the years.

Anyway, if you can afford the book and love submariners, I would recommend you buy it. Sure, you could piece all the information from the book together by visiting a bunch of web sites, or you could have it all bound together in a single reference with many beautiful photographs.

i've been waiting & waiting for the right price & seen it sell for €300 with free shipping but just lately the price has stayed rigid at €420 plus shipping on top........stunning book but not for that sort of cash

Uh-oh, looks like your bank balance is due for a ~$500 debit pretty soon. I'm a good testimonial for Mondani's GMT book -- it's more complete than anything previously written:

I just received my copy yesterday and it was even better than I imagined. Great photos, Subs and their info well documented, etc. Plus, it came with a price estimate guide as well as a small book on the Daytona. All is all, very pleased.

i have to say i do not have the submariner book, but i bought a double edition mondani, collecting modern and vintage rolex, $350 dollars and although it has lovely photos, i learnt almost nothing from the book i did not know which was dissapointing, the price guide was ok. i also have the daytona pocket guide 2 books, it was more informative than the fulll size two book edition collecting rolex.
