The Next James Bond.....the sequel...

British GQs version of who's next in line since after all James Bond ain't no 'Merican.

He's a respectible and refine Brit. who just happens to like killing people and bedding the chicks.

Coincidentally, I just read an article about the James Bond franchise in the Wall Street Journal. It’s behind a pay wall. Sorry about that.

But it doesn’t look like anything is brewing right now in terms of producing the next James Bond movie. It could be years and years…ugh!

The way the world seems to be heading, the next James Bond, won't be either, Anglo Saxon...or identify as, male. (for our younger viewers, a, 'male', would be a human, born with a pen*s)

There is a fan theory that James Bond is just a name assigned to any current 007 agent.

The Bond series should have died after YOLT.....the rest turned into cartoonish crap...PB series with the ice hotel was an insult to Ian .....just awful.

Now that Bond is "dead", I imagine the character will be "re-invented" in some way. Wouldn't be surprised if we go back in time to the "cold war" era and see a young and "fresh" bond. Sort of like what we saw with Craig in Casino Royale.

Time will tell :)

The Next James Bond.....the sequel...

According to the WSJ article, Barbara Broccoli inherited the franchise from her father. She controls all aspects of it. But the Bond franchise has some sort of contract with MGM, and MGM was bought by Amazon. And this where it gets complicated.

Broccoli doesn’t want to produce a movie with Amazon. This because one or two meetings with them apparently didn’t go well. So I’m not sure we’ll ever see another Bond movie again.

Of course, we all know that money talks. I’m sure if Amazon really wants another Bond movie, they’ll write a check and get her to see things their way…But until then, there’s no new James Bond movie in the pipeline.

This article agrees with that assessment.

It also counts down the best Bond movies from worst to best, which should be controversial.

I have enjoyed the franchise my whole life. Some better than others. I would think that we will see another Bond in the franchise at some point.

I heard the exact same unfortunately.

Rumor has it they wanted to ruin the franchise with spinoff series etc. much in the same way Disney has ruined everything with Marvel and Star Wars (and everything else really). Essentially just diluting the brand in the name of money.

I love the Bond movies, and I hate to say it but I would rather he stays dead rather than letting Amazon ruin it. I still hate they let the Craig era end it the way they did in NTTD.

Barbara Broccoli is worth ~$400M, and need not ever make another Bond movie if she doesn't like the business partner. I believe she would rather sit on it until she gets to make one her way rather than dilute the brand. Amazon paid $6.5B for MGM, but she could wait Amazon out until they sell Bond distribution rights to someone else as a separate package from MGM.

Or she could simply retire, owning the all rights to the character.

I didn’t realize she is worth that much. Yeah, she has a lot of leverage with that being the case.

From what I have read it the meeting was a total failure.....and called Amazon a bunch of fxxxing idiots ....I may be leaving out some more choice words.....she is 64 and with that kind of cash I think she will let it die first....which it should. I don't think I will see 007 in my lifetime again.

As stated probably the only reason Amazon bought MGM in the first place was to spin off the franchise like the MARVEL comic book characters turned into an incredible cash cow.

One of the hardest things to do in Hollywood is to maintain integrity. Almost impossible unless you have incredible leverage that the Broccoli family does. But it's difficult to see if they continue to do it in the face of the money involved.

And the reason the Bond actor is so important is the fact that they spend soooo much money to shoot and distribute it that if they screw up and the public doesn't warm to the actor they could lose their shirt AND the viability of the franchise.

The credibility of the actor from the very start was fairly good, sticking to the character created in the books. Sean Connery was a perfect Bond. Handsome, mean and suave. Then they went all over the place with the ridiculous Roger Moore who essentially reprieved his role as the Brit TV show, The Saint, which was not like Fleming's Bond.

Then Remington Steele was resurrected as Bond by Pierce Brosnan, which was sort of iffy as well.

The last iteration with Daniel Craig is perhaps the closest since Sean Connery to the character in the books. But even that, can be compared to The Jason Bourne series in some ways in the darkness of the shows and the locales in winter shoots, whereas the early Bonds seems more escapist and semi tropical.

Interestingly everyone's favorite Bond seems much like people's favorite music, which was what/who was around in their middle/late teens and they formed the relationship with that particular Bond. I guess since most people have never read any of the books the character is pretty malleable.

The doofus that said the word "content" to someone with the passion of the Broccoli family towards the character/franchise is a perfect illustration of tone deafness of people who only see things in terms of dollars.

Hilarious.

Like others have said, it seems Amazon wants to plunder the franchise by creating spin off streaming series etc. Plus I read a quote from an Amazon exec stating that bond is not a hero.
I can absolutely see them “deconstructing” the character to fit in with “modern times.”

No thanks. Kudos to Ms Broccoli for preserving Bond. As much as I want to see another 007 movie, I’d rather ihe stay dead rather than be ruined.

I’ve read all the recent news and rumors.

I believe that Barbara will prevail in the direction she wants the franchise to take and Amazon will bow down.

Money talks.

Each of these films are billion dollar revenue generators.

I for one hope that they honor the history and originality of the character staying true to the Bond legacy.

There was an entire thread based on favorite opening theme music for Bond movies. It was started earlier this year.

I personally think Goldfinger is tough to beat even though I’m more of a hard rock kind of a guy.
