Between all 4 configurations of the RQ, which do you think will be the rarest decades from now? I understand that this is a ridiculous question but I'm just wondering.

Seems like the platinum/salmon is the off catalogue that most opt for which would make them less rare later on, id imagine.

The one I'm thinking will be the least common is the gold case and white gold dial variant or even the salmon with gold case.

Would love your thoughts.

Lowest production does not equate to most valuable. Just look at patek 5970s where the YG was produced in the lowest quantity but the platinum reigns supreme.

With that said, among versions commonly available to collectors ie not black or one offs, I’d guess the lowest take rate to be RG on bracelet.

They discontinued the RQ boutique edition in early 2024, which is RG on black dial. Black label would be also rare, but the boutique edition was "available" without any special qualifications, unlike the black label versions.

Platinum with the pink dial is for sure the most common asked if the customers want to do configuration. But i personally think that it’s still much less watches in the market than the normal platinum/grey dial or red gold/pink dial. What’s your opinion on this?

One thing remains true in collecting anything. It’s far easier to make projections on future collectibility once an item is discontinued. This is why it’s easy to recommend a 5970 over a 5270 for that purpose. I would look to brass journe or even stuff in between brass and RQ as there is more clarity on production if you ask the right people. Historically they were happy to tell you production figures.

With that said the RQ is a beauty and surely will always be desirable.

From what I've heard, RG case with pink gold dial is the least commonly requested followed by RG case with white gold dial. But I guess its true that only time will tell on which configuration will be the rarest later on.

On a side note, does anyone know the difference in weight between the two metals?

The Prince Albert RQ with the symmetrical 12 hour dials which was just auctioned off in Singapore would be my ideal RQ. Let's hope this will come some time in the future when it is my turn for the BLRQ.

Yes. The Black label dial with platinum case is really pleasant aesthetically

And I already have a RQ so another “regular” version will be silly

The MOST common by far at least in the US (this was confirmed to me by 2 SA's at Journe) is the PLAT/SALMON, then the PLAT/WG, then the RG/SALMON and last the RG/GREY

Of course in this comment Im not including Boutique, BL's, etc

With that said the RQ is a BEAST and there is no wrong answer here.

I wonder how much color change will happen with the two dials considering they’re both gold and will age over time. It would be great to know what each would look like in a decade or two

I get that it’s an older example of the brand using gold for their dials but regardless, wouldn’t the new gold dials still fade given that they are also gold?

The current dials are a completely different color, its salmon. That dial is gold, more like the color of the Automatique 99 anniversary which was released in 2001. You can look at pictures of it in Instagram. Its likely the current salmon dials will age and maybe change color but it will be very different from the dial you are referring too.
