Oysterquartz repair
I was recently given a 17013 Oysterquartz which my father purchased in 1981. The watch just stopped working and a new battery didn’t help. My watchmaker said only the RSC can do the repair. I’m still a little hesitant in sending in the watch. The dial and hands got some nice looking patinas and I’m afraid the RSC might be asking to swap them. Are there any independent watchmakers out there that can repair these movements?

Some pictures would be nice. You can submit the watch to the RSC and get an evaluation done and they will tell you what is wrong and needs replacement/repair and the cost. You can then make a decision on what, if anything, you want done. Only costs the shipping and some time to get this information. Good luck.

In your place, I would use the forum search function to find relevant threads, and also contact other OQ owners by PM. Many people will respond to discreet inquiries more readily than they will post watchmaker information on a searchable forum.

Not in your country, but SHWR in Hertfordshire, England have a dedicated quartz specialist in the team and they look after mine.
Drop them an email perhaps. https://www.shwr.co.uk/

Could you possibly PM me this chaps name as I recently asked them to service my OQ 17000 and they said they don't touch them?

Sorry I don't have the chaps name. I do everything through Steve Hale, and told me in passing about this youngish chap in the team who specialises in Quartz.

I've owned my 17013 OQ since new in 1984. I had 1 factory service done in Dallas with a dial and hands swap at 26 years. If you don't want them to change the authenticity of OE cosmetic parts, you can say so and they will do their best to accommodate your wishes. if they feel they can't, you will be advised of their reasons before proceeding with service. Or, you can decline service and look for a reputable watchmaker.
The only thing I was unhappy about is noticeable refinishing flaw in my case lug from careless handling. I guess everyone has a bad day now and then. They did a spectacular job on my Daytona.

FIY, I was told that there are two parts that are expensive, but they are ONLY made by ROLEX, so if there is a problem with them, only Rolex can fix them. I've seen modules like ours on Ebay a few years ago, but I'm not sure if I want to buy an unknown, or old and used module. So I suggest you choose an AD |
