How long was your wait for your first SS Daytona at retail?

As the title states. How long was your wait to get a SS Daytona at retail. You can add your spend history on there as well if you would like.

I’m curious to see what the average wait was for these unicorns. Please state if you got the white or black dial. I know before the ceramic versions they were definitely easier to get. For me it was 4 months after requesting for the white dial.

Got a call about a white dial 6 months after I registered my interest. I was in France on holiday though so couldn’t get it. Got another call 3 months later for a black dial, which is my favourite. So 9 months but I spend a fair bit of coin there.

The first part without the second part is kinda meaningless trivia.

Especially when he didn't include his own spend.

Actually i never asked, my AD offered it to me. This was some porcelain or ??? dial Daytona ~23 years ago. Fast-forward a decade or so and i guess the wait was 6 to 9 months.

Doesn’t matter what other people waited as it doesn’t make any difference to your wait. Every AD has their own rules and VIP’s to cater too

No wait time. I stopped by the Rolex AD that was by my neighborhood. They had a stainless steel Daytona with black dial model 116520 that I liked. I bought it.

That was about 20 years ago.

I honestly believe there are a lot of people making stories up, you know, the type that love hype or making people think they achived something special. I see it all over the forum when it comes to hard to get items, not just watches. I'm not claiming anyone here is doing that, but you have to take internet posts/claims from people you don't know sometimes with a grain of salt. On top of that, there are a lot of contributing factors that may be the reason why some were offered a watch vs. not. In other words, this sampling is not a scientific result based on real world encounters for a random person. If you know someone at the store or have some type of favor, vs. just the person that buys a few things at the store and really wants one, the difference can be very far apart even though one obtained a watch while one did not. I think that some that buy grey also tell people they bought it from an AD.

I work with a group of people and most of us share in the passion for Rolex (and other brands) watches, so we all talk about our different experiences with our AD's both from our local area or areas where they visit or have lived previously, and every single person I talk to has been told that a Daytona is near impossible to get, and even with a sampling of about a dozen enthusiasts I know that have extensive spend histories with an AD, etc., not one has been offered a SS Daytona. And a lot of us find that the ones that have been told that "it's possible" have been told that "there's a 10 year wait and don't waste your time" by the same AD

Do I believe that there are random offerings of Daytona's to some? Sure. But I seem to come across more miracle stories than what, by the word of my AD's, are the norm (10 year wait, etc., etc.).

This should be an interesting thread!

2/3 years for black ceramic previous generation and 4 years for panda latest generation, two different ADs roughly similar spend history with 4/5 watches

About a week. I was also given the choice of either dial color.
This was at an AD that carried AP and I had already purchased 4 Offshores from them.

I had a purchase history with my Rolex AD and I was promised to get a black dial Daytona within 12 months.

That was in 2016 and I've never got the call.

Well said! I think these ADs are unloading their hot inventory out the back door to the used dealers as a bundle.

The AD might let one or two hot models go to real clients after they drag them along for a full year of buying other high margin items

IMO, SS Daytonas are never given at retail to buyer bc it’s their turn on waiting list. Do not fool yourself, there are no lists, it’s an illusion created to get your hopes up and possibility of you spending $$ on unnecessary jewelry thinking it might speed up the process.

I have been reaching out to few ADs in area, calling/texting/emailing for years, no luck.

Finally, I got a chance to speak to sales people at 2 different ADs, great conversation and both had similar thing to say - store manager decides who gets it, period.
At first AD, store was part of casino, and they were strictly instructed those pieces are reserved for ‘whales’, big $$ gamblers.

At other AD, and I think this is more applicable across the board, those are offered to VIPs with recent large spends in store or potential future one, whichever store manager decide is more important for their future of business.

If people are dropping $100K's at a jewelry store, do they really need a SS at retail? Sounds like the grey price would be "no problemo".

I’ve gotten a few Daytonas all with different wait times. First one was 2013 just called and picked it up. Ceramic Daytona black dial was about 1-2 months after release. White dial ceramic Daytona 11 series about 8 months same for the 12 series the gold oysterflex actually took the longest at 18ish months.

How long was your wait for your first SS Daytona at retail?

Oddly enough, I was texting the manager last night at one of the ADs I use and for some reason asked him, realistically, what was the wait for a white Daytona…2 years? 5 years? Next to never?

He very candidly replied, “I hate saying this but very unlikely. Steel Daytonas have been this way forever and this is a f****d up thing to say but it’s the truth. I gag when people mention the word, Daytona”.

Those were his exact words. Then he started sending me pics of PM Daytonas and said to let him know when I’m ready but the best thing is to go with PM.

Meanwhile, I’m thinking, yeah ok, I’ll just drop 50k on a watch collecting dust in the safe.

I do truly believe the day of discounts on certain PM watches is near.

2014 Singapore, when demand was low. Had a choice of a Black or White Daytona, as well as a white dial 5711 and a 5167A/1A-001. -Took the Aquanaut.

2015 New Jersey, 4 weeks to get a black dial Daytona. Passed on it.

-Still don't have one.

About 6 month for white 1165

The new black 1265 was quick.

And purchase history…. It’s up there…. before Daytonas I did buy few two tone sport watches and my wife buys all her jewelry from same AD. Also shopping at same AD for 15 years.

The 116500 white dial took 8 months in 2022.

Got the 126500 white dial 3 months after I asked for it in 2023.

Significant spend history with a good AD. My wife likes diamonds.
