Nos

Somehow I acquired a new 116520 black dial.
It has snickered at me for quite sometime from the safe and I enjoy torturing myself not caving to it.
I kid myself it is actually an investment piece

What's the collateral damage of ripping off the stickers and slapping that bad boy on ?
I do have several other watches i kinda rotate.

Salud!

Once you pull the stickers you might as well run over it with your car.

Wear it.

Idk today probably 2-3k in 50 years no idea. My advice is to sell it and buy something you really want to wear. Usually if I have something like that, I wear it and then sell it 6 months later annoyed lol

A few K ? $2-3K more or less. It would be very hard for me! Daytona’s are irresistible to me. I would wear it and enjoy it, who cares about the money! Unless you don’t want it.
I have trouble with that too.

Cheers,,

I did the opposite. Took the stickers off and wore it daily for the last 17 years! It’s been surfing, off roading, fishing etc. Sure it’s scratched everywhere, but it still keeps decent time and doesn’t miss a beat. Probably should have it serviced soon due to the gaskets are old. I will request they don’t polish it, to keep its character.

Why keep it in a safe untouched for a decade so the next person can enjoy it? Imagine if we did that with our spouses

I’d rather have the cash than a watch I’m afraid to wear.

I don’t think he’s afraid to wear it. He’s hoping to make some money on it, so wants to keep it pristine. OP, most of us here wear our watches. We aren’t investors, where watches are concerned. We also don’t generally value watches. My advice: Rip of those stickers and enjoy that Daytona! And when you do, post a wrist shot!

Have to agree trouble today to many now Rolex watches have become little more that £££$$$ objects things and little more. Which is a shame once they were bought to wear and enjoy for decades on the wrist hopefully in good health.

Yea and no. The hobby is where it is because it evolved to it organically by the people involved. The Porsche 911 market is exactly the same way with the same kind of mindset of new owners. I don’t like it but also don’t want to not have these hobbies in my life.
You are not getting the pee out of the pool at this point so you either go swimming or stay out of the pool all together and go golfing.

If you're not going to wear and enjoy it on your wrist, might as well sell it now.

If you want to hold it for the best return, just leave it alone. The markets are fickle, and it is hard to say whether it is worth holding or moving it along now.

Agree. More options with the money…can only look at the watch, may as well just get a photo of it.

I don’t have any watches that I don’t wear. That said, having one to look at just means treating that watch as a piece of mechanical art. That alone can bring great joy. Whether a good or bad investment cannot be judged today and, besides, diversifying is good.

Again, I don’t do this with watches but I also don’t judge those who do. If nobody did this, I can assure you a “NOS” of an icon will be worth a fairly large premium over the span of decades. Of course perhaps too many do today, negating the benefit.

Rolexes are not true “tool” watches today. So I don’t buy the “only one way” to participate in this hobby line of thought.

I’m wearing a nos SD Rn with stickers on it. I’m digging neoV. I want to peel but I’m guarding against what Tom said

I feel you! In the same boat :/

Have a NOS Sd4k and think of pealing off the stickers any day :)

Only thing is have quite a few other watches in rotation and even few new and stickered which I could wear before actually slapping the sd4k.

Did you buy the watch or did your buy the stickers? Once you decide that, your choice becomes clear.

I just don't get why people treat watches as investments instead of what there are intended to be - something to wear and enjoy. I can, and do, make much more money in the stock market than most watches could ever bring in for me. My advice, wear it or sell it. But don't just keep it in a safe.
