Certified Pre-Owned Program Question

Hello,
Quick question for the forum - I was considering selling my timepiece (Ref. 126334) back to my AD under the Certified Pre-Owned program. I've enjoyed it for awhile and I'm looking to move on to a new model. I was wondering if anyone on the forum has had a positive (or even negative) experience selling their Rolex back to their AD. The main thing I'd like to know is if they gave you a fair price for your watch.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Look at chrono and deduct 30 to 40% of the lowest price is close to what they are willing to offer I expect. Trade up you get some more.

Selling your timepiece back to the AD under the Certified Pre-Owned program sounds like a good move if you're eyeing a new model.

Going through this process at the moment.

I want to drop from 3 watches down to 2, I want to have that one watch that I get up and just put on my wrist and wear day in day out and a posh watch for weekends and nights out.

My collection comprises of TT SD43 which is going nowhere, it is just stunning, a DJ 126300 (2019) and a Submariner 124060 (2020). Neither the DJ or Sub if filling that daily driver role I want and I am not gelling with either watch, in fact my Omega Speedmaster has been on my wrist more that the Sub.

I contacted my SA completed some basic information and sent some pictures to them to look at. From this they gave me an initial assessment which gave me margin over my expenditure which considering the watches are 5.5 and 4.5 years old respectively, both have wear marks, both have scratches from day to day activities, didn't seem too bad.

But to get a firm offer the watches have to go and ben assessed at the store's main branch which will give me a final offer, this is where my watches are at present, I should hear by the weekend how much I will get.

What to buy?

I had been through the watches on the website a multitude of times and thought what if I went Explorer II, it was very different from the watches I was trading, very different from the TT SD43, the brushed links gave a 'tool watch' vibe which I quite liked, did they have one - yes, could I buy it - yes.

This weekend I visited the store with my boxed up due to send off for assessment, tried a few watches, some available YM40 grey dial nice but not me, TT GMT (too pricey), some not available and never likely to be for me. But the Explorer II black dial was there, it fitted my wrist beautifully and looked stunning, even Mrs O liked it, and as mentioned - I could have it.

The situation as of today is my watches are being assessed, once we agree on the final values I will collect the new watch and the store will transfer the balance of money to my account.

The store will do rather well out of the deal, as they will make a profit 3 times, the Explorer II when I buy it, the DJ and Submariner when they sell them.

Me? Well I'll got to wear two Rolex watches for well over 4 years and got back at least what I paid for them, which I think is pretty damn good. I could sell them privately but I'm not keen on doing that.

What do I think of the CPO program - its not bad, the watches have to be over 3 years old, yes the value offered is less than what they are on the market for but that's business. I think that the store has been fair (at least so far but final offer has still to materialise).

My SA openly admitted that using the CPO program helps you with purchases further down the road. Not sure that this will help me as I have no plans for another watch once this deal if finalised - but we all say that don't we.

I have done CPO twice. Each time, I felt it was a motivator for the A.D. to sell me a watch off the waitlist. The first one was an explorer polar, the second one was green sub.

If you’re looking to squeeze every last dime out of your watch, CPO is not the move. If, like me, you don’t really care about squeezing every dime out of it, and you don’t wanna be meeting people at Starbucks or the mall to sell a $5000 watch, then CPO is genius move

You’re going to get back at least what you paid?

You must not have paid very much so good on you because I cannot imagine CPO being a good deal other than convenience. In fact, I don’t find it convenient to send my watch and wait for them to assess value.

I’ll be waiting on your results.

Enjoy!

Sounds promising. I am surprised that the Sub did not work for you as a daily.

I did this last year at my AD. I wanted to move up from a TT Daytona to a PM Daytona on OF. My TT Daytona was just over three years old, and I had purchased it from them. They gave me what I had purchased it for (minus the sales tax). I thought this was a pretty fair offer considering I wore the watch for three years, the process was seamless and I was only out the sales tax.

My watches were bought brand new through my AD where I lived at the time I paid the retail price for them, they will (probably) be bought by the AD where I live now.

To get back what you paid after wearing watches on and off over for the time frames mentioned is pretty good going IMHO.

I did like the Sub it is a great watch but I don't put it on my wrist and go WOW, I went for the Submariner rather than the Submariner Date as the aesthetics appealed to me more, in hindsight maybe I should have gone the other way round.

Nice to hear from someone who has been through the process and got the result that they wanted.

So far I am liking the process, to get back what you paid after 3+ years of use is good, I certainly haven't felt that I am being short changed in the process, and if I am unhappy with the final valuations I can walk away.
